Hi guys!

I am not a big fan of candid pictures for many reasons, mostly privacy issues.
But still, sometimes, temped enough to snap this or that shot.
Oh well, here goes my contribution to the topic:

My first candid with my Mamiya c220 well sort of a candid hardly a stealth mode camera. Having a bit of trouble with composing in square format, and whats with that mirror image left means right, up means down? Thats my excuse for the hand rail obscuring part of her leg.

PS. little known fact, this picture was taken with a Nikon dSLR during my experimental stage (aka before I switched back.)

Here are a few candid shots of mine.

The first two are untouched while the third has just been cropped.

All were taken with a Canon Digital Rebel (300D)

Hope you like them.

Cheers!

Same roll of film as my last one. Vintage 1953 Zeiss rangefinder The first shot is a candid the second is not pretty hard to sneak up on someone with a 50mm lens

Hello Ken:

I was wondering if you shot those pictures from the hip or through the viewfinder? That is if you don't mind talking about your technique.

thanks,

waz - they were through the viewfinder... if you pre-focus and walk, most people will have passed you 10 steps before realizing they were photographed... haven't had any issues... however i avoid photographing the homeless, children (unless it's with permission of the parent(s) and muslim women...

Have to try your pre-focus technique. I find focusing with Rangefinder to be very slow (I'm still inexperienced) so I didn't attempt to shoot any live objects on the streets. :D

that's pretty cool. you must be using zone focusing then to pre-focus?

I'm a strictly digital shooter and i can't wait for the camera makers to release a true and affordable digital rangefinder, like the upcoming Sigma DP1. With a DSRL camera its hard to do street photography and stay inconspicuous.

waz - why not pick up Canon QL17 (III) or a Yashica etc and try some film...

the alternative is to use a digital P&S... having said that i know folks who use a DSLR for street photography with good results... 'it's not the bike' to paraphrase Lance...

street photography is 80% confidence, 10% luck and 10% equipment... ie 90% of all cameras are capable of fine image quality for street photography...

good luck and happy shooting...

My 350D/Rebel XT is smaller than many of my 70's RF's. With a 28mm lens (45mm FOV equiv), just manually focus about 9ft away, and DOF is about 4ft to 30ft @ f8, plenty for street shooting.

Thanks Ken, recently I got a Nikon D40 and I'm planning to use that for street. i also posted in the mentor section looking for someone to help me with hyperfocal focus and zone focus.

I'm eventually going to buy a film rangefinder, probably a Leica, but for that I have wait for sometime. :)

thanks Kin lau, thats what i'm planning to do with my D40, and i also need to work on my pre-focus technique.
