1. What do you use?
2. All in one, or buy the legs and head separate?
3. Best all around under $100?

I'm new so I would like to know more :P

1. Gitzo CF mountaineer 2451 with acratech GP ballhead
2. Depends on your budget - mine are separate
3. Not sure what option out there that's good for under $100 to be honest.

Less than $100? Mirror lockup and rest it on a rock.

lol, my response to all 3 questions: Slik Sprint Mini:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/6 ... II_GM.html

I bought this last year when I was down in NY. I can't say it's the best thing under $100 though. It's good as a travel tripod in terms of weight but the height is limited compared to a full size tripod.

Could crash-build one like this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq_6kEyI ... e=g-user-u

... you may have noticed that you have stumbled on people who take to heart the lesson that it is more wasteful to keep buying cheap tripods and just skip to the one you really need.

IOW, read this: http://www.bythom.com/support.htm

My tripod is the Manfrotto 083MF3 ... and I have an older vintage ballhead from the 80's... I am planning to get a new ball head at some point soon, as the old one is starting to slip.

Sorry to take away from the op's question but since we're in the topic of "let's talk tripods"...
I'm looking for a ultra light tripod mainly to use while travelling. Right now I'm borrowing a friend's Gitzo GT-531 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Tabletop Tripod Legs which is .9 lbs and goes for $350 USD on b&h. Can anyone suggest any other tripod of similar price range of same or less weight that I can consider?

Thanks.

That looks great! Hopefully I can find a reasonably priced used t3i so I can get a good head for it.

055MF3?

I currently use Manfrotto 055MF3 MagFibre legs, an Acratech leveling base, and an Acratech GV2.

Way outside your price range unfortunately.

This tripod is often available discounted to $100 http://www.vistek.ca/store/Tripods/2257 ... ripod.aspx Pretty sturdy tripod for the price plus the load rating is also good.
