I was wondering what your thoughts are on this:

Canon may be releasing the 7D2 as a few entry level full frame. Currently, my rebel broke and I wanted to upgrade to a full frame body. However, the 5D3 is way out of my budget. Do you guys think this will be released any time soon? I know it says Sept, but many times companies announce their products and then take months for it to hit the shelves (Nikon D800).

The 7D is a crop sensor. It'd be sort of weird that Canon will decide to come out with an MKII FF of the 7D and expect its users from the MKI of 7D to change lenses.

Will drive the prices of the current body line down even more.

I don't think the 7D Mk II will be full frame. I think they're going to go the same path as Nikon and release a D600 type thing. Then again there are a lot of rumours of the 70D moving upscale into the 7Ds area. Given that, maybe the 7D Mk II will also move upscale. I do hope Canon builds on the current platform as it is in an incredible camera that pushed the market.

I don't think there will be anymore semi pro crops (7D / D300s)

I believe the 7D and D300s will be the last of their kind. Its all full frame from now on :S

If they do release one, I much rather pick one up vs an old 5D2. I was waiting for the 5D3 but the price is too high to justify the cost. But that would mean I would be playing a waiting game with no camera as of now.

Would love a 7DMk2 to complement my 5DMk2.

There's a pile online about the 7D II having a full frame sensor today... I'm still doubtful to be honest. It would be interesting to see them perhaps take the 5DII sensor they already manufacture and probably have an inventory of and put it in the 7D as it exists now. If the AF gets upgraded it would encroach on the 5DIII and what else really needs updating? We know the 7D has the room... Not that I'm left wanting a whole lot with my camera as is... but the 7D as it is with a 5DII sensor? Yowza. That would be a nice camera indeed (relative to its price hopefully).

Then again maybe the end of the crop is coming for some lines... Someone may correct me on this but has Canon released any high end EF-S lenses lately? It looks like that may have run its course except for the low end stuff that gets mounted to the Rebels.. The 17-55 is 6 years old now, the 10-22 is 8 years old...The most recent lens is the 18-135 that got announced with the T4i to work with the new video autofocus...

Well, considering that the AF system on the 7D is pretty good and the fact that the new AF system for the 1DX and the 5D3 were based off the 7D's, a 7D with a full sensor will end up to be an fantastic piece of tool. If they actually make a move to make the 7D an FF, I'd jump on one.

Then what difference would there be between a 5DIII and a 7DII?

Right now? Speculation. That said, it wouldn't be the first time Canon released a lower level camera with better features than the one above it. The 7D is after all a better camera than the 5DII in every way but the sensor. Given that the 7D was released shortly after the 5DII it ticked a lot of 5DII buyers off.

That's why I think if they took the 7D pretty much as it is with the older 5DII sensor it'd be a perfect step down from the 5DIII. Then again, it could still put Canon in an even tougher spot in justifying the over-priced MkIII.

what do you guys think the going price for the EOS 70D will be?
