I've been calling around to get an idea of what's going on. The major stores are getting 4-6 units per store and slowly filling pre-orders. It will be a month at minimum before someone can walk into a store and buy it.

The guy at Henry's told me they're expecting the weekly shipment to go up starting in April.

Do you mean 'go up' in price?

No, they're expecting to get more than just 4-6 cameras per store every week.

The D800 and the D4 faced price increases in the UK, a whopping $200 and $1000 increase respectively. No word yet on whether or not this will apply in North America, but if you haven't placed a pre-order and have your eye on either of these it might be a good idea to order with the current pricing... but who knows?

Sadly, I was not able to pre-order, since I don't have enough $$$ at the moment...
I can only hope to have enough cash and luck to get D800 by mid-May (so I can learn and be able to use it by the end of May).
Judging from a million people in line for pre-orders, it will be hard to pick up one from the shelf any time soon :(

I don't think that you are going to see them stocked on the shelf until the summer time.

August, apparently...
I can still wait longer (not that I want to, lol), but I need the new camera specifically for the end of May.
Looks like I will be forced to pick up used D7000 instead (great camera by all means, but I want a full frame).

I ordered an 800. Seems like it's easier to apply a bit more sharpening (not that it's not sharp enough!) than try to fix moire.

I pre-ordered the 800E on Feb 7 but will be happy to see it in May.
I figured the medium format people don't need the AA filter, with 36 Mp why should I? I do a fair bit of selective smart sharpening now on my D7000, so I thought I could avoid that. I'll probably still sharpen anyway, although a little more lightly, perhaps in the corners. I'm hoping Capture NX2 gets updated with a moire brush rather the current global fix which will require a layer in PS.

Scott.... If they have stock, they can't be Nikon Canada approved. Only pre-ordered models are currently shipping. And from what I heard, because of Nikon's inventory week, some retailers haven't received any units for over three weeks. I believe most of the NPS members got their units. So the waiting game continues.

I know of two non-NPS members to already have received theirs so I don't really know what to believe at this point. one of them a professional photographer and part time teacher, the other a recent grad from Humber who isn't even working in the field as a photographer...

It depends on the store Scott. The store where I have mine pre-ordered is not a Henry's, so it will take a bit longer to get it. I am patient for now, but come June... I better have it by the time I go back to the Yukon.

NPS members needed to have a PO to get them. Just saying you were going to buy one was not enough.

Nikon is having production problems with the D800 resulting in no shipments being received.

One of the better D800 vs 5DMkIII videos I've seen.

Cross posted in the 5DMkIII thread.
