Met with Greg Poole, VP of Fujifilm Canada today to talk about the X-S1. I only got a chance to shoot with it for awhile but wasn't able to shoot with a card. It's only a development model.

Pros:
Build quality feels like a Canon 60D
Image stabilization is wonderful
Focus and zoom rings are smooth
Silent shutter
Consumer modes (panoramic, etc)
f/2.8 lens at the wide end
Huge zoom

Cons:
Electronic viewfinder is a bit weak. Resolution wasn't that great. Would have loved optical.
No wheel on the back
Not as many function buttons like a DSLR
No swivel screen.

I like how Fuji decided to focus on such niche markets. Filling in spots where other manufacturers don't make cameras for. I would see this as a great travel camera. Bigger sensor and better quality than other mega-zooms like Fuji HS20, Nikon P500, etc. However, my opinions are still on the fence. I really have to see sample images and see what they change before the actual camera comes out.

How is this model different than the old FZ series bridge cameras from Panasonic?

You mean this?

If you can believe the google translator:

http://translate.google.com/translate?s ... 81838.html

Key words from the translation: "In addition, in the spring of 2012 "to bring the finest SLR mirror-less system" and clarified. Said low noise will exceed the sense of resolution and full size 35mm sensor"

It didn't really say it would be a full sized 35mm sensor only that the quality would exceed 35mm sensors. I would bet on an APS-C sensor.

I believe only the X-S1 is near completion of development. All other cameras are just at the beginning or mid-development. I don't expect anything else other than the X-S1 until fall of 2012.

Bigger sensor, better build, faster lens just to start.

Its suppose to use the same sensor as the x10. So other than differences in the lens quality - the images should be comparable.

So these came in today. Not too bad. Perfect for a traveller who wants lots of zoom or amateurs who want to shoot birds/wildlife. It's a silent camera!
