Would love to do a comparison of the fuji x100 vs. the Nikon 1 V1 in terms of speed, spec's, and image quality.... Anyone got an opinion on this? I know that the Nikon sensor is smaller.... So wondering if image quality suffers in comparison. The video sounds awesome though, as I find the x100 video not all that great.

According to DxOMark, the X100 destroys the V1 when it comes to the sensor.

+1. If you get the X100 it will not be for its video capability though. The iPhone's video is actually way better than many cameras.

One is a toy ment for amateur point-and-shoot types, the other is a image machine with a sensor optimized for serious photographers. No comparision.

Thanks guys... Just to clarify in case you didn't know. I have the x100 and I know the quality of the images produced. I wasn't really sure about the Nikon. But shooting short video clips... I find that the x100 does a lot of focus hunting, especially in lower light. I like the idea of having a portable camera that does hi-def video. Although if its serious video I am looking for... Then I shoot it with my D7000 or Canon HV30.

I think I will stick with my x100, as the image quality is excellent. The camera does have its quirks, but I am getting better at using the camera, now having it for a couple of months.

The Nikon 1 is garbage. Played with it at the store and it's nothing special. At all.

Surprisingly Steve Huff likes the V1 : http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2011/11/1 ... d-to-hate/

The Camera Store compared the V1 with Lumix G3 : https://www.thecamerastore.com/blog/201 ... 3-shootout

Although the V1 has a smaller sensor, it doesn't seem like image quality suffers that much. What is impressive about the J1 is focus speed, fps speed and its video capabilities.

The X100 is for someone who likes knobs and dials the. Many "experts" think that the V1 will appeal to a certain market such as young parents trying to capture their babies/kids with lightning speed and capturing that decisive moment where the baby smiles or the boy/girl scores a goal; and speed is where the V1 shines (as well as video). The X100 is slow and focusing is inaccurate but the images are great with a very unique look to it.

1200fps slow mo video is fun.
60fps photos is fun.

that's all.

The m4/3 cameras are so much better at half the cost.

Nikon took the hybrid focus idea from the Fuji F300EXR and put it into the Series 1 system.

I don't think Fuji has re-used the hybrid focus system in any of the other cameras after the F300EXR. Maybe it didn't work that well for them.

From the reviews, Nikon's version of the hybrid focus system seems to work very well - even for sports photography which has never been the strength of contrast detection focus systems (which the X100 uses).

So if you shoot static subjects - X100 is the ticket, if you want to shoot moving subjects - V1 seems the better bet (only than a DSLR of course).
