The AF and speed is a great reason to upgrade from my (very slow) 5D2, but getting a downgrade in resolution? Ack!. It's not a lot, but it sure would have been nice if they had offered it at the same resolution or a few MP higher. :-( I hate having trade-offs, especially if I'm buying the top of the line model. it should have all the best of the best!

They probably couldn't have achieved those speeds (reliably) with anything higher than 18MP... That said, 18MP is still more than enough unless you're doing huge prints I think.

The three image processors is probably the biggest 'wow' for me.

wow.

very interesting.

also very interesting to repeatedly come across "... first introduced in the EOS 7D"

sounds like the 7D was a beta camera to test out some engineers' ideas for AF improvements for the EOS system.

18mp is actually more than enough, even if you want a Billboard size prints :)

No, 18MP is not enough, I want 30MP.

I think this leaves a lot of room for Canon to make the next 5D an uber-megapixel camera at around $3k and still bring out an entry-level FF around the $2k point, maybe cutting out the video capabilities.

RIP: Pro crop bodies

You can never have enough MP's. the more you have, the more ways you find to use them. When shooting wildlife and fast moving objects, (take birds as an example), I'd much rather zoom out and give the object LOTS of room in the frame while trying to track it, and crop later to get the details than to try to fill the frame with a moving object at extreme distances and get lots of blur and badly framed shots with missing wings, head etc...

More megapixels also introduces more noise, lets not forget about that!

A processor dedicated to AE too. Nice.

This sounds interesting...

"Instead of taking each image with the correct exposure, the total exposure is added up from each individual image. To achieve the correct result, you should underexpose each image so that the resulting image is correctly exposed once they are all combined together.

The Average setting provides an automatic exposure control whereby each image is automatically underexposed so that the final image is then correctly exposed. Unlike with the Additive setting, all images in the multiple exposure will be averaged and taken at the same exposure level setting. "

Concept is really nothing new for multiple exposures. Old film cameras have similar feature although the DSLR probably has a bit more automation.
A handy (if not necessary) feature on a film camera with automatic motor drive that advances the film but I wonder how often it would actually be used on a DSLR.

Awesome camera, crazy price, I hope this isn't an indicator of the D3/S replacement's price. It would be nice if it was around $5K whenever it shows up.

204,800 ISO!

"I got the photo, but I'm not quite sure of what as it was too dark to see". It would've been nice to keep it at 21mp to keep consistent with 5D MKII to use the cameras alongside with each other. In any case I like the specs, potentially nice clean ISOs at lower speeds, especially when pushing the RAW files around. For me the 1Ds MKII 16mp files were perfect, able to expand the file size in Photoshop very cleanly when needed, and the RAW files processed nice and quick. Glad to see dual CF instead of damn SD cards.

I really like the direction Canon is going. I will gladly take more information per pixel over more pixels.

Sadly, I used the MK2 until the MK4 came out. I guess I will have to skip this model too. Not sure its worth the price difference over the Mk4 for me.

The future seems awesome though :D
