my buddy pointed out that @ $2k at vistek & henry's etc, the 5d2 is $500 cheaper than at B&H Photo or adorama.

how often does that happen?

not often... but the rebates for US won't kick in til next week..

There will be an instant rebate on the 5D Mark II in the USA starting September 25 and running until October 29, 2011.

so we're just a few days ahead.

If that's the case, expect an announcement on October 30 :P:lol: although it will most likely be a couple of weeks after that.

there's also this:

if the rumours about a cheaper FF camera more dedicated to ISO than video are true, I can see myself being interested in an upgrade but with a mk3 surely coming in at $3500+, my mk2 will do me just fine for the forseeable future.

Surfing around POTN, it looks like a good handful of Americans are ordering 5DII bodies from Henry's up here since our price is a few hundred less than the current US price.

Heck, it almost makes me want to pull the trigger on one. But I think I'd settle for a 5Dc for now...... (hint hint, WTB!!!!)

Same on CanonRumors - some people were asking if Henry's was a reputable seller in Canada - one guy was charged 2013 USD from Henry's for a 5D2 body - I guess the taxes are dealt with by US customs.

Funny how the tables turn... I have never seen Americans flocking north of the border to purchase camera gear.

Wouldn't it be better if "we" were the ones going down south to buy gear since our dollar value is higher plus some of the states have lower sales tax?

Back when $1.00USD = $1.60CAD (2002-ish), people from the US were buying new cars in Canada! Even with our higher retail prices it was cheaper for them with the 60% spread on the dollar versus a 20-30% markup.

The 5D3 shall be mine 8)

Actually, I only have the 40D now. Does anyone think it's a good idea to trade that in for the 7D until the 5D3 gets released and has settled in price? I already have the 7D battery grip (long story), and am debating whether to sell or keep.

For the 5D3, I can wait. Yes I can!

The 7D is a great rig but so is the 40D. One of the best photographers on this forum, IMHO, shoots with a 30D and has exceptional images. I have a 40D and have been tempted by the recent 5D2 price drops but am personally holding out for the 5D3.

Before the 7d came out, there were some rumors about a 3d (or something in between a 1d and a 5d). Is there anything like that this time?

There is talk of them splitting the line into a lower end FF body - possibly a 3D or 6D and monetizing the 5D3's video capabilities. It is all speculation at this point.
