They would probably focus on a larger and faster in camera buffer!

+1

CF UDMA 7 specs is around 167mbyes/sec lets say that is 5 raw files written in a second (~30mb files x 5 each from say a 5Dmkii). Mainstream/even pro memories are not equipped with memories that can exceed the pata udma 7 specs (maybe there are but not that most of us can get a hold of).

There are many standards and specs, ie. UHS speed classes have a high maximum bandwidth but remember the bus controller maybe able to support those speeds, but the physical memory in both SDxx/CF cards are the bottleneck.

I am not debating whether or not there will be a format change, but just that it has not hit the bandwidth ceiling.

As Elisha says, the max speeds are not even being touched yet :)

Well, why can't they just construct a larger SD card in the form of an SD card? I can't use the SD cards, they are too small for me to quickly swap them out. Sure their size may be great for in camera, but I just hate fiddling with them.

My buddy Many just picked a X100 and because the camera boots off a portion of the memory card, it benefits from faster SDHC cards like a class 10, UMA. Faster is always better.

It was interesting to see the 60D go SDHC, perhaps this is a sign of things to come.

Oops, I was tired last night. I meant to say, why can't they build SD card in the CF card siz format. Ok, I'm awake now.

The camera market is not driving the speed question for these cards, high-end video and the embedded/industrial market is the driver there and they do hit the speed limits on currently available cards. Remember AVCHD 2.0, a fairly well compressed spec is 28mb/s. The 5DmIII is expected to do 422, probably at 100mb/s bitrate. Since these are sustained writes, not burst speed, that will require significantly faster cards. A RED ONE can do 42MB/s REDCODE RAW footage, and Epic can do 225MB/s (note that's Megabytes per second, not AVCHD's Megabits per second). Those transfer rates can easily bog down any current flash storage.

I have heard elsewhere that this is a fake - done by a student.

So again DSLRs are not going to benefit from a different format at this point anyway.

Plus I have dropped so many SDs just cause they are so small and feather weight!

They make a CF card adapter that allows you to use SD cards in a CF slot.

Looks like a 5D mark II with a Mark III badge. I'm sure they are going to put on the locking dial on the Mark III.

They will benefit, but not right away. stills just don't move enough data to really stress current cards. Even current high-end SD cards are more than fast enough to handle anything short of a 1D or D3 and they come close.

They went SD with the 60D to ease the rebel users and Point and shoot users to a DSLR so they wouldn't have to buy new memory cards. At least that is what I was told from a Canon Rep. They will not be He also said that he doesn't think that they will have an articulating screen on any other model's besides the rebel and X0D. But I think he's wrong on that one.

They haven't had a replacement for the 1Ds yet. Would be weird to see a 5D MkIII before a 1Ds Mark IV. That would totally kill the sales of the 1Ds as mentioned earlier.

That assumes there will be a 1Ds Mark IV. A lot of recent gossip has indicated they'll go straight to a 1D Mark V which will merge the 1D and 1Ds into one body. Selectable crop factor with corresponding burst rates, RAW video, new processors, etc etc.

Anyone predicting the first $10K body from the big two? :D

Hrmmm...I suppose this gives me a bit of time when I upgrade my Canon 10D. Question is...7D or 5D. :? I like the 7D's ability to take 8 or 9 fps, but I really am more in tune with taking landscape/architecture shots. I'm sure they're great for events/portraiture as well.

I have a SD to CF adapter and it helps if you have a lot of SD cards, but is very slow with reading the info when scrolling pictures in camera.

Just brought home a 5D MkII + 24-105mm for $3K plus tax. They included a 4 year service plan too. Figured I could save some money compared to whatever the MK3 will cost.

I like it, but what's up with having only the central AF point as a cross type?

Does anyone think it's worth returning the MkII and spending the extra money for the Mk3?

Well, given that the Mk3 doesn't exist yet, has no confirmed specs and no shipping date, you are probably better to have a camera that you can actually take pictures with than wait an unknown amount of time for something that may or may not have any better value to you.

Rest assured though, that whatever and whenever you buy, there will always be a new model on the horizon which is better, faster and cheaper.

And that doesn't just apply to cameras. Women, cars, and most importantly, women, also follow the same rule of thumb.

Perfect points noted regarding new gear. Additionally, how many of us really take advantage of the gear we already have? I can honestly say unless I were to get a commercial gig where true high resolution images are required, my gear will be relevant for me for many years. I don't really have to upgrade ... but it's really hard not be a gear-head sometimes

I already picked up my 5D Mk2 last week based on the image quality and the lowest price yet. And honestly, I doubt there will be any new units around when the 5D3 is announced. Feels like either a really smart or really dumb decision buying it now.

Coming from a 40D, I am not happy with the AF but it appears that people are getting by fine from the photos that I see?

Still have two days to decide if the camera goes back and wait for a 5D3 instead, or should I just save my money and learn to deal with the AF?
