When I have shipped to NY state I have been charged NY sales tax, when I shipped to Virginia no sales tax.

Has anyone ordered with a US shipping address? I'm going to be in the States so I was thinking about picking up a B&H order from a friend's place...but the checkout indicates $0 sale tax (plus shipping) regardless of what state/zip code I tried. Is that too good to be true??

Yes, that's generally true. I'll remind you of 2 caveats:

If you're shipping to the same state as the store (NY for B&H/Adorama) you'll pay sales tax.
If you need to return the item (for a reason other than defective) you'll have to reimburse them for the "free shipping" (~$10) that you got.

Other than these two points, take advantage of the $0 tax + S&H :)

Not always cheaper I just brought a Tenba bag a few dollars cheaper from Vistek that's because they had a $20 off special.

Ordered from BH on Tuesday evening, received the package on Friday morning, shipping for camera was $11 and I already had $US in my paypal so avoided any exchange rip offs.

Pretty good, I am happy.

$1601.31 for a 24-70L from B&H shipped to my door.

OR, I can get in my car and spend time going to a store to pick it up:
$1480 + tax from Downtown Camera: $1672.40
$1499 + tax from Merkle & Aden: $1694.98
$1599 + tax from Vistek/Henry's/Headshots: $1807.98

Plus there's a handful of Fn douchebags selling this thing for $1500 USED! or more!! on Kijiji.

I wonder if they would ship to a hotel? I will be travelling to the states shortly and would like to order some gear and have them shipped to my hotel to save the taxes and shipping.

I did an order last year to cottage we rented in the Boston area (no tax) and then declared it on the way back. I thought I saw something on their site about NOT delivering to hotels but you may want to check with them first. The definitely will do a ship to USA/bill to Canada combo though...

I had a chat with a B&H agent and this is what transpired :

**********
William: I will be visiting Boston for a week and wonder if you would ship to my hotel
Nathan Z: Please contact our Verification Department and they are the only ones who can release an order or give you information as to how we could ship to a hotel. You can send an email to verification@bhphoto.com or call 800-622-6265 (International customers can call +1-212-502-6349).
William: I am from Canada
Nathan Z: No problem
William: so do I have to make the arrangement ahead of time?
William: I will be going there in 3 weeks
Nathan Z: Yes, We don't really ship to hotels but you could work it out with our verification if there is a possibility
William: ok
William: can I chat with someone from that dept?
Nathan Z: Sorry, you would need to call them or e-mail only
*********
I will do that and see what happens.
