So I am looking for some sort of reflective surface that I can shoot some product stuff on. I need it to be larger enough for big items/full body portraits but also transportable/cuttable(for making smaller peices for products). So I am looking basically for like plexi-like materials that are rollable. Some thing that I can roll up and stick inside say a tube of seamless for example.

Now I have small sheets of plexi for really small product stuff, but I want something that I can have for portraits too perhaps.

I also have what is called transflex cast which is glossy static cling material that is about .75mm thick. It is perfect but I need much bigger pieces. Mine are only like 20"x30" and im thinking more like 48"x96" (4 foot x 8 foot). something like that would be perfect. Does anyone know where to get such an item? I have tried the big hardware stores with no such luck, and I got my transflex cast and plexi from an art supply store and I got the largest they carry/can order so I am a bit stuck here.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Cheers,
Scott

Mylar isnt really reflective enough and also it is a bit thin for my use. I like using it for diffusion material but thats about it.

I think you are talking about the wrong kind of mylar..... As the mylar i am talking about is often used as a mirror substitute in theatre.

Anyhow..... I don't think what you are looking for exists as a flexible rollable material.

ahhh... I did not know about that kind of mylar. I though that you meant the thin translucent drawing paper(or plastic) as that is the only mylar i knew of. hmmmm. how thick and how flexible is that mylar you are mentioning

Not sure about how thick or flexible..... But just looked it up online, and a 30" x 48" piece of flexible rosco mirror is $175 ... I believe this is actually an acrylic product.

Home Depot Sells white translucent sheets meant for florescent panels. They work well and are cheap and portable. I used them to shoot a Sake bottle. Image is posted on my flickr page.

I've been looking for reflective material as well that is portable and large enough for full body shots but haven't had much luck. Let us know if you find anything good.

I think it's www.plasticworld.ca Dan but the question is do they have anything large enough that is portable - i.e. the material can be rolled up easily?

You mean like a K12 acrylic lens for a 2x4 lay-in fixture?

I called them as I was posting the OP and they are closed until next week. I was hoping to find something by tomorrow as I want to do some shooting now. I'm going to call next week when they reopen.

try 1/16'' or 1/32'' Clear Lexan sheets (48''x96''), it can be rolled without breaking.

look for East West Plastics in the Yellow Pages, i'm still on my Holidays so i can't give you their number.

I think so... :? They come in clear and a translucent white. 2x4 sounds right.

They are a real mom and pop store. Been in the business for ages and have LOTS of different materials. Really good.

And yes it is .ca...
