I am thinking about picking up a friend's Minolta 5D (6.0, anti shake, APC sized sensor,) incl 18-70 and 70-210 zooms, (DT series I think), and 2 new rechargeable batteries.

He bought the complete package new in Florida years ago. He uses it sparingly, and keeps it well protected. It will have low activations.

I am an old Pentax film guy with with little digital experience outside of my Nikon P5000 p&s.

What would be a fair price to offer him? (He is a close friend and customer.)

Thanks,

tough one...its hard to find any listings in terms of these guys for sale.

As an example...found one on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Konica-Minolta-5D-KI ... 230ab3213d

The real question is what features are comparable to a Nikon / Canon model. Take the used value of that as a starting point...then go lower.

Wow! Thank you for the tip. Very informative KM site. Plus I learned of a notorious "First Frame Black" problem inherent to both the 5D & 7D, I will have to ask my friend about.

a quick update, my friend told me he only wanted $250 for the package. So I can't pass that up. I've never shot digital, and this will be interesting. That said, I am a confirmed film, (specifically transparency,) addict and this will be a play toy, (maybe short lived?)

I love my M42 Pentax cameras. I have 4 bodies and a slew (never counted) of lenses. I still own the first SP500 I bought in 1973. (It is still mint!)

Dave,

The Minolta Maxxum 5D is an interesting camera. The Sony A100 is essentially a Maxxum 5D with a 10MP sensor (Sony bought Konica Minolta's SLR camera assets in 2006).

While focusing may prove to be difficult on the Minolta 5D specifically, M42 lenses are easily adaptable to fit on Minolta AF and Sony DSLR bodies, if you use stop down metering, and acknowledge the 1.5x crop factor.

While I never owned a Maxxum 5D (or it's big brother the 7D), I will try to offer any additional help I can.
