I probably can't afford anything in that lineup that I'd want to own! lol
I guess they revamped all the super teles (minus the 800mm). My 300mm f2.8L IS is already tack sharp, it's hard to imagine how much sharper they can make the new model. I'm sure it's going to come at a nice 25% increase in price too! :P

From the looks of it, Canon seems to be making everything an L lens now. I remember when all Canon L lenses were constant aperture. Maybe they realize that consumers are willing to pay the extra $$ for L glass so why not make EVERYTHING L now?

eh.. was hoping for better specs on the 60D but I guess it was wishful thinking. I'd buy a 7D with an articulating screen right away.

I am partially interested in the EF 8-15MM F4L Fisheye. Everything else looks way out of my league (financially that is, haha).

I agree, the 8-15mm fisheye looks interesting but personally, I have no use for a circular fisheye. I'm sure Piglet will be licking her chops! lol

According to Rob Galraith, MSRP and release dates for the new lenses:

8-15L Fisheye $1,400 USD (release date Jan 2011)

70-300 f4-5.6L IS $1,500 USD (release date Oct 2010)

300 f2.8L IS II $7,000 USD (release date Dec 2010)

400 f2.8L IS II $11,000 USD (release date Dec 2010)

WOW, that 70-300 is mighty costly for a variable aperture f4-5.6 lens!

I thought this was a cool new feature of the new 300L but sort of a fail since it does not auto stop at a predetermined focus setting:

For videographers, the new lens offers a Power Focus (PF) setting that enables focus distance to be smoothly shifted by turning the lens' twist ring (which when the lens is not set to PF serves as the focus preset activator). The further the ring is rotated the faster the speed of focus. Rotating the ring one way or the other determines whether focus is shifted further or closer. It's not possible to have the lens power focus to a preset focus distance and then automatically stop, says Canon USA Technical Advisor Chuck Westfall.

The new lens includes an additional IS mode that, when enabled, keeps image stabilization from activating until the moment of exposure, for photographers who prefer not see the effect of image stabilization through the viewfinder when tracking moving subjects in particular. The lens includes a security slot attachment to enable securing the lens with a safety cable or lock.

I guess the new owners will have to be UBER careful with the front element since it is now an actual lens and not the protective glass filter of the current model.

Unlike its predecessor, the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II's frontmost glass is not a protective filter; instead, it's an actual lens element. The new lens accepts the same 52mm drop-in filters as before and is about the same size as the earlier lens.

The zoom fisheye is the most interesting to me as well; however, I can't see myself spending that much money on a gimmicky lens.

I liked the Zenitar fisheye while I had it, but it certainly wasn't a key lens in my arsenal.

The 60D is a logical, but unexciting fit in the range of camera bodies. I guess I'll need to move soon if I want to find a good 40D with low actuations (since they will be getting harder and harder to find) or save up for the 7D...

Looks like the new 428 is going to be significantly lighter and the 328 will be shedding a few ounces as well.

What's up with only bursting 5.3fps on the 60D? The 40D did 6.5, the 50D did 6.3.

When, oh when will they get around to the 24-70 2.8 IS?!?!?
That's the one I'm waiting for...
...the fisheye looks interesting, but I can't see me spending $1500+ after taxes for it...

I'm perplexed by this 70-300L IS... I mean, I could see why they would do it from a business perspective, but the lens is quite uninteresting to me. Especially how they just took an existing lens, upgraded the elements used, painted it white and stuck a red ring on it...

There's a new 7D on CL that was purchased a week ago for sale for $1500 with a kit lens. Apparently it was a present to somebody and he wants to sell it to fund a 5DMrkII. Really good deal - save on the taxes and plus some and you get the warranty. Maybe fishy perhaps :)

Aside from that, I'm seeing prices in the $1400-$1600 range for a used body that is about a year old.

Sharp is a relative term. If its anything like the new 70-200 it will change the way you look at glass... until the III series comes out.

11k for the 400... I'm not feeling the love from Canon .

Yay, someone else on here finally has a 7D, I've yet to see anyone else with one at a meet. Kinda relieved the 60D is below the 7D in more than just some sealing and body. Not by a whole lot but it is. The 70-300 looks like a decent travel lens, but pricey. And the other lenses look great but aren't really in my kit plans. I'm guessing the 24-70 IS is going to be announced at Photokina along with the anticipated 1D.

I was really hoping to see an announcement for a 14-24mm 2.8L. Canon probably worked on it for a couple years and weren't able to match/exceed the performance of the Nikkor, so then they shifted their efforts towards something no one else has, the 8-15L. No thanks! :x

The 70-300L makes a good travel lens, but they've effectively doubled the price of the original EF 70-300mm IS.. not gonna be a lot of happy campers. I'm assuming the 70-300L isn't an internal zoom like the 70-200L series right?

60D has the same 9 point autofocus layout. Still the newer xxDs autofocus system is pretty damn good.

At the end of the day I know guys using 20Ds and 40Ds at the track and getting wicked shots. Of course they got a 300 F2.8L and a multiplier stuck on the camera, to me, it's still all about the glass.

I only picked up the 7D because my 1DMrkIIN is getting a bit long in the tooth but still works like a champ and decided the 20D has been sitting idle as a backup camera so might as well sell that off.

Camera Dojo has a convenient comparison chart of the 60D and its closest relatives.

I figured this new L lens would replace the "does it really exist?" 70-300 DO IS instead.

70-300L as a travel lens? I doubt it, have you seen the weight of that thing?

It's not an alternative nor a replacement for the consumer version. MTF chart on that thing is amazing. Price too. Plus the weight.

I think this is gunning into the area of somebody wants more range of a 70-200 but doesn't want a 100-400L because of the IQ from this lens.

Looks like the 60D went backwards in some respects:

Joystick removed
Magnesium body removed .. now it's plastic
Switched from CF to SD
Decreased shutter life - 150,000 to 100,000
Decreased fps to 5.3

Hmm .. not liking that.

Its probably to pay for the new swivel screen and help ensure that the 7D is still a better camera.

For me yeah. Maybe I'm a masochist with how much I'll carry. :)

Scott Bourne looks at the 60D and gets the 7D flash sync wrong (the 7D syncs at /1250).

I agree, it's heavier (1050g), but not ridiculously heavy. I'll be going on vacation sometime next month with a 70-200 2.8 II (~1500g), so we'll see how I manage :D

BTW, the consumer 70-300 IS has been discontinued, so this is the replacement. It fits the need for a high-grade mid telephoto, as the 70-200 series is more of a specialized constant-aperture, short telephoto zoom.

That's a good point, it does weigh less than the 70-200 I use as a part of my travel kit.
