On initial glance, it looks intriguing.

I doubt that I would buy one, but I am impressed with Sony's thought process with the Alpha line as it has developed over the past 4+ years, especially with product specialization.

In other news, Canadian pricing for the 24/2 ZA, the 35/1.8 DT, and the 85/2.8 have been released:

24/2.0 ZA: $1499.99
35/1.8 DT: $249.99
85/2.8: $299.99

Compare with announced US prices:
24mm f/2: $1250
35mm f/1.8: $200
85mm f/2.8: $250

Because you don't do video stuff?

On paper, looks like it is a winner even against to be announced Nikon D7000 (D90 replacement). I am just wondering how fast is Nikon D3100 autofocus video compared to Sony one. Nikon better gives me a big surprise on their next camera.. or I may switch.

I have an NEX 5, which is video capable, though I've only used the feature once. Between it, the a900, and the a700, I have enough cameras for the moment.

Chris is that a New York moment? :D

I wonder how much light is lost in the partial mirror.

I read it is 70% (sensor) / 30% (AF)

on the other hand, I didn't read anything about potential viewfinder delay... can be a potential issue when taking pictures, maybe not be a issue for video thou.

I'm actually going down to upstate New York, and maybe NYC on Labour Day weekend to visit some family. A run to B&H may be in the cards... :)

Fortunately/Unfortunately, the 24ZA has a release date of late September.

No official comment from Sony in Michael Reichmann's review: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/revie ... view.shtml

Interesting the comment about PDAF only able to work for video wide open. I would have expected it to work at least stopped down to f/5.6.

I will make a prediction that this will be a short lived concept The contrast method of focusing is already getting improved with higher speed and customized sensor and processing silicon the advantages of phase difference focusing will disappear thus obsoleting this type of hybrid system.

The AF system can work down to f5.6, the limitation on wide-open is in firmware. In fact in the 10/7fps burst modes you get f3.5 or wide open, whichever is smaller rather than just wide open.

I just picked up an A33 to replace my K-x (and departed G1) as it combines the best features of each for my uses. This also simplifies my systems as I'm now down to a single SLR system in each of MF and 35mm mounts (my 6x7 stuff went too)

mawz, how do you like A33 so far? fast focus video? or you don't much video? how does it compare to your G1?

I like the AF video here:

thanks.

I'm quite liking the A33 so far, it's a great mix of the G1's strengths and the K-x's strengths although it's definitely a bit larger than the G1.

I don't do much video, my reason for going to the A33 was the combination of excellent high ISO performance and a large, high-rez EVF which is easy to focus with in very low light.

Compared to the G1 the A33 gets much better high ISO performance, it's noticeably more responsive and AF is improved. Compared to the K-x it has a much better finder, much better LCD (higher rez and flip/twist) and it's got better AF and metering.

Yeah...wonder if Nikon or Canon will follow. I like what Sony has created. Wonder how well it'll work out on the field?
