Well, here's an image of deep fried butter, courtesy of The Star (it's a meal to die for):
http://www.thestar.com/living/food/article/849481--deep-fried-butter-latest-cne-treat

I couldn't find an image of cheeseburger in a bag, but I did find a description:
"Imagine a bag of cheeseburger-flavoured Doritos filled with seasoned ground beef, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup and mustard. Luckily, they didn

That doesn't look too bad. I guess I'd try it. Still not sure about the cheeseburger in a bag though. Sounds like nachos with shady carnival beef.

I'd rather have a deep fried Mars Bar!

I remember the fuss made when I first mentioned that here a couple of years ago.

Everyone was grossed out last year because of chocolate covered bacon but it was AMAZING! I think I will at least give this butter a try even though I think it will be gross. as for the cheeseburger in a bag... that is a different story as I want nothing to do wit that.

Almost anything with bacon is delicious (and I'm quite aware it's usually the boys who say this)

We had this discussion at the Ice Cream and starlight event where it was unanimously decided that bacon + chocolate == can't lose! Bacon makes everything better & chocolate makes everything better. Ergo better + better = bestest.

My wife and I took the kids down on Friday for our Annual CNE Marathon. We arrive at 10:00am and leave at midnight. There were a huge group of Photogs walking around with tripods, so many infact I had to check tpmg from my phone to see if there was an event for Friday night. If my legs have recovered by Wed I will try and make it too

I haven't been to the ex in a few years now. This will be a great opportunity.
I work until 5:00 so I may have to catch up with everyone along the way.
I hope my new K-7 arrives before then!!
See you all there.

Terry. :D

Given that I get off work at 5:30pm, and given the ongoing fun that is the Gardiner construction, I may opt for the GO Train.

I hate the GO Train. Seems a normal person cannot decypher their schedule.

Anyway, based on this link: http://www.gotransit.com/public/en/news ... NE2010.pdf, it looks like I get on at 1749h train at Port Credit, and get off at the Ex at 1805h, and probably meet you guys at the food building.

At the end, I guess it's get on the train at either 2149, 2249, or 2349h. Can anyone confirm if I'm reading the table right?

lol And I thought I was the only one. I love taking the Amtrak from the Bay Area to the valley ( I can take my bike from where I lived, on the bus, to the BART, to the train like clockwork) and their schedules are easy compared to GO. :?

Based on my past experiences, that sounds correct. You can always confirm by asking the attendants.

Well, usually we start by waiting for the "Mardigras" parade, then make our way usually outside, although one year when they had the toilet exhibit we did go inside the Direct Energy building.

Probably the best place to meet up with us (before it gets dark) is the FOOD Building around supper time, As lxdesign posted on the first page.

Yes, that's right. Or at least that was correct last year -- I haven't had the chance to check the link, but it's been like that for the last couple of years when I've taken the GO back to Mississauga after the CNE.

Well, I was at the Ex today, and I couldn't find "Cheeseburger" in a bag. However I did find "The Original Taco in a Bag" which is basically the same thing.

A quick Google search using "Taco" instead of "Cheeseburger" came up with this page:
http://www.joeydevilla.com/2009/09/02/slice-of-life-taco-in-a-bag/

It was the same food building booth that has poutine...can't remember the number right now but when you get there if you look at the bottom right of the map in the categories of food and look for the list of "Specialties" you'll fine "Taco in a Bag".

BTW, the Naleway Perogy booth is there for another year (yeah)...had it twice today.

I couldn't believe the news the other day had a segment on eating healthy at the Ex...who wants to do that? The whole purpose of going to the fair is to get away from healthy food and have FUN!

One thing I did today was go on the CNE Haunted Walking Tour this evening (where all the ghosts are):
http://www.explace.on.ca/about_us/events/events83/tag102/2010-09.php

The weirdest thing happened with my camera.

For the heck of it I was shooting blindly to see if I can catch something in my camera (not looking at the screen to see what I was taking a picture of, just holding the camera at waist height and clicking), and when I had it pointed in a certain direction I found out later it didn't take any pictures even though I was pressing the shutter (this was my digital P&S in silent mode, so there was no shutter sound to be heard). As soon as I pointed my camera in another direction a few minutes later, it captured what I was pointing at.

Something didn't want me taking pictures of whatever the camera was pointing at at that time!

For the heck of it, when we go on the outing I'm going to break away from the group and go to Scadding Cabin on my own (instead of being in a group of over 50 people) and try again. If I don't come back alive...

What kind of activity did you do during the tour? Was it just walking around or was there some actors acting as ghosts and zombies and surprise people? :D :D

Remember the walk I was on was the FREE (part of CNE admission fee), shortened walk.

It was one hour ten minute walk to the various death areas where there were odd occurrences, for instance the 2nd floor of the Coliseum, under the Gardiner, the operations building (which used to be the main Hydro vault for the city, etc., and the leader telling about the occurrences that happened there (not only the hauntings, but the deaths as well), and still are happening there (both hauntings and deaths).

The only "characters" on this walk were those already at Scadding Cabin, although "John Scadding" did speak to the group (again that's where my camera acted up).

The leader of the walk did say some workers did pull pranks on various walks in the past, but personally I prefer if they didn't so I could sense the real thing, rather than the fakery.

I'll be late arriving as I'm off at 6:00. Likely there about 6:45pm, so will likely hook up at the food building.

Some really good poutine to try is at the farthest north west corner -- I think the name was Bouchard Poutinery -- they have 5 or 6 varieties and they are like a meal.

Got the Mexican one for $8.00 -- fries, curd cheese, gravy, ground beef, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. Yummy!

Very true! I've been doing this same outing since at least 2006 or 2007 ... and every year we go, and never have an issue with tripods. We have never been approached by security. We did have auxilary police ask us what we were doing once - and I showed them, and they had no issue whatsoever.

The only people that make a stink about us are the game carnies in the midway, otherwise .... no issues.

Funny... I've been hassled by the CNE people when there WASN'T anything going on there. They told me that as soon as a Tripod was involved anywhere on CNE grounds that it was a professional shoot and needed a permit. They must make an exception for the Ex... or the security guard that talked to me was crazy. Wouldn't be the first time...
