The search function doesn't seem to be working for me right now. I was checking out someone's lens today that I wanted to buy. When i looked through the aperture ring i noticed that the blades didn't form a perfect hexagonal shape (or w/e the shape is corresponding to the number of blades). flicking it a few times, i noticed that a different blade seems to be out of place every time. I declined the purchase and went home.

When I got home, I took a look at all the lenses I have with me and noticed the same thing happening. is this normal?

none of my lenses have this issue. I checked my 14-24 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, 80-200 f/2.8, 50 f/1.4, and 24 f/2.8. they all seem to be fine and all perfectly even all the way around each blade. and for clarification the 50, 24, and 80-200 are D lenses with 7 blades each, 50 is a year old and in MINT condition and the other 2 are between 6-10years old and well used but also well loved. The 14-24 and the 24-70 are G lenses and have 9blades for a rounder look to them. They are both 6 months old and are very well taken care of

Seems like its not uncommon... any Nikon people want to take a look at their lenses?

My Nikon MF 105/1.8, 50/1.8, and 50/1.2 don't have this problem though.

Go back and get that lens! As long as it stops down, you're good!

meet at a Henry's or something....
compare.
Better yet, drop by a henry's and check out their version, and see if it does the same thing.
But ya, stop it down, take some shots, then stop it up, take some shots.
Drop em quick on a laptop to look, and you should be good.
Also, try to read the seller a little. Get a feel if he's genuine. This helps me 50% of the time.
