So I was doing a bit of clean up at home and looking at some of the junk I came across, I decided to make a ring light for my macros. I thought I share the process with you.
note: this setup does not interface with the camera. this is a good thing considering my knowledge of electronics)
basic setup consists of a LED ring I bought from Active surplus a long time ago. a used Henry's brand cheap rubber lens hood, a small Tupperware container, one on/off switch, a AA battery holder, and some wires and 8 AA batteries.
I let the photos do the talking. I was very happy with the results.

Hey Eddie, how far does the light work? Is it enough for ring light catch lights in portrait?

I don't think it would reach that far. Diode on this ring are tiny. my next version would be out of some dollar store LED flash lights.

you should consider adding some sort of current limiter or better yet a constant current regulator.

Ahhh just slap in a resistor if it is drawing too much current. Thats my 2 cent solution. :)
