Not much detail on the gear being used or how it's all setup, but I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Is anyone else falling down this well yet?

I'm thinking that a BushHawk and a couple of minor additions would be far easier to use.

It's portable, lightweight, "high definition", and affordable but they will never be close or even near the quality of professional camcorders. At best, they're only good for amateur shorts or small commercials for the internet.

I used to work at the airport and I have seen filming with the 5D MKII many time by different productions. Seemed to be pretty elaborate by that I mean it is not 2 guys shooting on their own, there were quite a large group and what I noticed was the 5DII used.

The bit depth just isn't there. Works for event coverage, weddings, and small productions. And I mean 10 people is a small production.

I guess I can understand amateurs and REALLY low budget shoots using SLRs for motion-picture production, but to quote myself from this thread....

I just don't get why people are using 5DmkIIs to shoot video when they can afford to shoot on proper professional film and digital cinema systems that can use proper cinema lenses..

Oh well, maybe I'll never understand...

It's a different market for different uses. I can see how it's useful in some productions like the BMW commercial in the other thread. Just don't try to do any hardcore colour correction and it'll be somewhat okay.

Technical points aside, I can't wait to get my hands on one.

The big thing how I see it is the ability to use existing gear to create films in great quality.

TRUE its not as good as a full HD prosumer/pro HD video camera however the quality is good enough to impress.

Also DSLRs are less intimidating, more candid, much smaller and can fit into smaller spaces.

One thing that can't be ignored is how much its changing the world of photographers and cinematographers.

Currently, 5Dm2's and 7D's are used in production for 24, Saturday Night Live (digital shorts), and various larger productions.

National Geographic has a feature shot on the 7D, see http://www.dslrnewsshooter.com/2010/03/ ... ure-on-7d/

Philip Bloom demo'd the 5Dm2 and 7D at Skywalker Ranch, and George Lucas was impressed. http://philipbloom.co.uk/2009/12/12/skywalker/

So yeah... it's only good for amateur videos and net use :)

That would probably explain why there's 7D's with a PL mount, for _very_ expensive 35mm motion picture lenses.

Its the next stage of evolution for the DSLR and 35mm cameras.

From film to digital to video now.

It all makes sense if you know what each piece is for.

The gears is for a follow focus system, which then requires the rails to mount to which require the grip and shoulder mount/rest for the whole system to be stable. He's also using a 9inch smallHD monitor instead of an eyepiece like the Zacuto, so that needs to be securely fastened as well.

The mic on top runs into the mic-amp and XLR hookup which sits over the shoulder.

I also understand that they used 5D for some intro bits on "So You Think You Can Dance Canada"

I just saw a very interesting posting from Cinema5D.com, that a camera man uses the 7D on some scenes in CSI:Miami, and was used for second unit in Ironman 2.
