So here's the deal....I have both Siggy 30mm and 50mm f/1.4 and I'm considering selling the 50mm to fund a 24-105L or trade both for the L.

I picked up the 50mm from Gentec yesterday after a full month there. It had some focus issues and the last 2 times it was sent in, they just flashed the ROM and sent it back.
On the last visit , i stood at the counter and showed them the issue and this time they replaced the HSM motor and the PCB and all is good now.

However since summer is approaching, I'm gonna need a good walk around lens and have been eying the 24-105L for the longest time.

The 30mm works much better for me indoors because of the focal length on my 7D so I may keep it.

Ideally I would love to keep both primes and buy the L but the wife would kill me so a compromise has to be made.

Any thoughts?

Hi There,

Being that this is not an actual sell post - I have moved it to the gear forum, until have decided whether you are selling it or not. And please note: all sell posts must state an asking price. thank you.

I'm in a similar situation with a 7D (crop). I first got the Canon 50mm 1.4 and used that as my walkaround prime. A few months later, I found the 50mm was too tight for walkaround use, so I got the 35L. Well.. let's just say I haven't touched the 50mm ever since.

I should really sell the 50mm, but there's always that chance I might need a "portrait" lens. That's the thing with lenses.. as soon as you sell it, you'll find a use for it :D

I agree Spencer. I had a 50mm on my Sony and used it quite a bit.
But now that I have a 30mm too on the Canon, I'm not sure how often I would need both.
I prefer zooms in the summer since I would be outdoors more and primes for portraits.

+1 on Potatoe's response. If you don't use it often, and you have an eye on another lens, sell it. I do have a bit of remorse of selling my 50mm but if I bought it again, I don't think I would use it as much even though it might come in handy. 24-105 is a very versatile lens. I would do it :)

In my experience, 24mm on crop is never quite wide enough.

But this is a mentality thing, since we're talking about changing the 50mm for the 24-105.

Why not pick up a nice a850 and come back to the dark side with me?
