Just got the A700 open boxed replacement and it has 8010 shots already taken. Wow!

I thought this was rather high.

Any ideas on this.

It's an open box item. You could have a couple or you could have thousands and thousands of shots already.

8K seems rather high, but I've seen more then a few sales staff in various places showing off the speed of cameras. These 'demos' quickly pack on the actuations.

I saw sales people made "movies" out of the a D3 by shooting continues on high speed.

Open Box means it was either a store demo or it was purchased and then returned during the return period. Used is an item which was traded in. Most of Henry's remaining Open box A700's would be demo units at this point since the A700 was discontinued several months ago.

8k shots is entirely believable for a demo unit, and within reason for a return (although rather much pushing it). My Open Box E-30 had over 4000 shots on it and was a return rather than a demo.

Hi Maureen.

the number doesn't necessarily represent the "actual" number of shutter actuations taken - we should do an Opanda check to get the 'real' reading of the shutter. If you want - feel free to email me a jpeg, and I'll check it for you.

If it was a demo, it may have been sitting on the showcase since 2007 so 8k is normal.

I wouldn't be concerned as long as it still has a full warranty.

Thanks everyone for your feed back.

I was expecting about 2000 range or so.

The manager said you can't garantee, the count on any open boxed item. It still has the 2 year full warranty with Sony which is good.

So all is good.

Yes, thanks David I'll send you a jpeg in a few days and we can see what the count really is.

I've taken 10k in 2 days.

Maureen:
Personally I would be more concerned with the general care of the camera. Shutter actuations are over rated. Unless it looks like it was handled roughly it probably as good as new.

Unfortunately I have not found a reliable way to check number of shutter actuations on the Sony bodies. Such a feature may exist, I just don't know about it.

It is entirely possible that someone with another sony camera (a100) stuck a card into the demo camera that had a photo on the card already, and the camera jumped the photo number in camera to match the card.
