I have the 70-300 VR Nikon lens. I have heard that when using the lens to shoot sports, you should turn the VR off. I have also heard that when using the lens for really long exposures, you should turn the VR off. Does anyone know if the foregoing is true? And if it is, when should you use the VR setting?

Thanks

For sport photography, you would most likely be using high shutter speeds to freeze the action. At high shutter speeds, not only is sports action frozen, but any camera shake would be frozen too. Thus VR can be turned off. So goes the Nikon logic.

I've done some sports shooting with my 70-200 and used active VR mode to great advantage, I would think the 70-300 would be helpful in a similar way. But if you are using the lens/camera on a monopod or tripod, you should turn it off, as VR can jump when the camera is still, and cause the image to blur.
