Just tested out a 35mm insert from BetterScanning. I've got a roll of BW film that heavily bow towards the reflective side. Because the film is bowed towards the reflective side, I have to place the film emulsion side down to prevent the film sagging down towards the glass bed. I've tried it and it doesn't look very nice. The b/w tones are off and gives off a purple tinge. I also have to flip it horizontally in Photoshop (not a big deal though...)

Any solutions?

Roll it the other way and keep it that way for a day or two with an elastic, then try again.

As long as there is no varying gap it shouldn't matter which way you place the negative. except for the change in focus distance. I scan both ways and have never seen a difference. Sometimes I have to use 2 pieces of glass to weight it down enough to keep it flat. But as above it some times better to cut it and flatten it over night.
