Apple Launches its new Touch screen Tablet names it Ipad

Some of the specs

1.The iPad is 0.5 inches thin and weighs 1.5 pounds. A 9.7-inch IPS display, the same display used in the latest-generation iMac.

2.It has full capacitive multi-touch screen, 1Ghz custom Apple chip. It's called A4, the most advanced chip they've done: processor, graphics, i/o memory controller on one chip. Can have 16, 32, or 64 GB of SSD storage.

3.802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, accelerometer, compass, and a 10-hour battery life. ( wow thats impressive)

that's so far ..not sure about the price yet.....

Rumours of the name is true, frankly, I can see all the jokes about the name coming....

In fact, MadTV did one already a while ago.

A "real breakthrough" he says. Two plans: 250MB of data every month for $15.
The second plan: unlimited plan for $30 per month. AT&T is the provider.

Here are some of the prices
To start, anyway, at 16GB. 499$

$599 for 32GB, $699 for 64GB. With 3G, add $130 to each. So: $629, $729, and $829.

They'll start shipping Wi-Fi models everywhere in 60 days.
The 3G models will be shipping in 90 days.

BIG IPHONE.....

Frankly..... If I want a display that large, I'll use a laptop. Waste of money.

Personally I love my Ipod Touch and I see a market for the Ipad. Many users who were thinking of Netbooks or small notebooks would go for this. You can't beat the interface and multi-touch technology.

I have an Ipod touch as well.... and I love it too! But do you really need an Ipod touch that has just over a 9" screen? It no longer becomes a "portable" device. LAPTOP! or NETBOOK!

And for that amount of money... you can get a kick ass laptop compared to the Ipad.

I'd totally consider this device. For simply consuming media (web, reading, videos, etc) this device can potentially be far better than a laptop. I sure as hell won't be editing photos on it but would totally consider it for simple day to day stuff.

I don't think it's really meant to compete with a laptop. It is much smaller and with a far better interface. For things like consuming media (web, books, magazines, videos) this device looks very promising. I could see the draw of doing those things on an iPad as opposed to traditional laptop.

I'm saying this and heck, I don't even like Apple!

Apple is brillant - this like the iPod, iTouch, and iPhone are media consumption devices (not creativity/productivity tools like a laptop/notebook) and this creates another channel through which Apple can act as a gateway/gatekeeper for media (iTunes, i(Movies/TV), iBooks, i(Magazines/Newspapers).

They won't be able to make enough of these things.

Only question is how long before it will be available/supported in Canada. 8-12 months from now?

Nope.... but I see your point, and I do get what everyone else is saying. I guess I'll have to wait and see one before I make up my mind on it. And ya, I'll probably end up getting one down the line when they drop the price a bit. I waited for the Ipod touch to drop the price before I got it, and glad I did.

The only concern I have it how robust the build quality will be. With a 9.7 inch display and being 0.5 inch thick if I drop it will it break into pieces? And I wonder how hot it will get with the 1ghz processor.

Some cool accessories too:

I surprise it didn't have a built in flip out stand like the Archos players.

You need to see the video of Steve Jobs' presentation. He was sitting in an armchair operating the thing as any normal person would.

FWIW: iDo not see how iCan find much use for the iPad. It doesn't replace a computer enough for me. But again iDont have use for an iPhone or netbook anways.

One of the accessories is a case that doubles as a angled holder.

Ouch.. I already have one for my laptop and should work fine as well for the Ipad. Simple enough diy project as well if you are so inclined.

Hummm, I was expecting a lot more from the launch than what was announced.

The downside of it:

-It uses the iPhone OS which means I can't load any Mac OS apps of my choosing. Not talking about Photoshop etc.

-It does not support Flash.

-No PDF support

-No Java support (which means I can't VNC into my workplace like a Netbook)

-Durability. If I stick it into my backpack and something presses onto the screen (like a camera body etc) is the screen going to crack? If you get the accessory case, is that like making a pseudo Mac AIR?

Don't get me wrong. I think it's cool but I think it falls short just by the limitation of the OS alone but that's not going to stop the hordes of folks running out to buy 'em.

You essentially hit the nail on the head. I suspect however it will serve to a certain type of apple customers. Personally I think it is cool but not for my requirements. Then again.. iPhone users who love their apps are much different from Blackberry users. Hmm productivity or apps that burn time??

just wait a bit and it will have all the app support for most of those things. i can vnc into comps from iphone so ipad should be no problem.

of course the downside is that you have to pay for those apps but that's the business model of iphone, ipod touch and ipad.

what's really annoying is the lack in hardware such as built in camera, SD card slot or what not.

Oh forgot to mention:

-No multitasking support
-No video conferencing support
-No video output connector (at least not yet)

For any net book buyer this is the best option...........
I think apple saw the Netbook market and launched for those users..
the next version of ipad might take Photoshop and lightroom or other applications like a net book and perform much better than net books......

But definitely no photo editing on these guys..Unless its powerful ...
For a 499$ this machine is a gem ....

For the future we can expect these

Hope someone will come up with a tethered shooting cable and app for this. It would be a sweet 10" live view screen, I would buy it in a heart beat...

Wow I didn't know they had something like this. How does it integrate with Canon bodies?

If you are able to remote view the pictures on the iPad that woudl be very coo. I suspect it would not be Canon software but something unique to apple app? If somehow they had Canon software or even LR on iPad it might be something to consider.

Well, I don't see any roadblocks in releasing the wi-fi version of this device in Canada, unless, the bookstore thing becomes a problem. The 3G version, yeah, may take a while given how long it took the iPhone to be available here.
