Played with the Fujifilm X10 today... and here's my rant...

No on/off button, you switch the camera on by turning the zoom ring.
It has a zoom lens.
There's no focus ring.
Camera and live view lags as you half-press.
Focus is slow and not accurate.
New and expensive accessories. Have to buy new batteries, new adapter/hood to put a 52mm filter, if not it takes a 39mm filter.
Dials and switches are cheaply made.
Small sensor.
And did I mention the price? $600?! I wouldn't pay more than $450.

The X100 is only a bit better. The X100 is sluggish performance wise, battery life issues, expensive accessories...

Ya, but the x100 has the cool factor look to it ... the x10 looks cheap to me.

it might look cool but it is impractical with fast subjects

How was its viewfinder?

It was clear, better than the G12 it's just a simple optical viewfinder though I think.

I just got this camera like a week ago and its definitely better than I thought it would be. For such a small sensor its giving me excellent high iso results - even 3200 looks decent enough. It handles great I really like how it looks and feels - definitely does not look cheap at all when you get close up to it and feels rock solid.

I actually really like the on/off switch being the zoom lens - it works well once you start getting use to it.

I can't say to much bout the viewfinder - I haven't really used it much - relying on the LCD so far - but i'm sure there will be times where it will be useful.

As for the focus - its definitely not slow - its quite fast (not DSLR fast), but I have no complaints. I have had it hunt on occasion, especially if there isn't a lot of contrast in my focus area. In those cases I just focus on another point and recompose (just really noticed this problem when there is low light).

So far I am very pleased with this camera - particularly my goal was to replace my point and shoot with something that handled better, gave me more control and had better image quality and looked cool! For what it is, its a great camera (something I can take with me when want to travel light - and not carry 20lbs of gear).

I would concur with Jordan Faust's findings.
The camera isn't half bad - it's going to replace my current P&S (Ricoh GRD III).

It's not nearly as pocketable but I'm willing to give that up for a bit more functionality and better high ISO. The GRD was only good to 1600 at best but the X10's 3200 is very usable.

I've used the flash a bit and, again, it's not bad for a little P&S flash.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the camera.

Cheers,
Dave

Ive read there are problems when shooting towards a light source. White discs appear in the image unlike normal lens flare.

Yes I have read about the white disc problem - so far I have only been able to reproduce it (at least to where i can actually notice it) when I purposely was trying to produce the effect. I have done some night shooting (handheld) and any bright lights did not seem to show the disc affect (or if they did it was such that it did not affect the image - and looked just like a very bright light). That is not to say this isn't a problem in certain situations (apparently bright light with highly reflective materials). But in my very limited use so far (only had the camera for a week) I have not had a problem. Hopefully a firmware update will resolve this in the future. But for me so far I have no complaints and just really enjoying traveling light, with a good quality camera, for a change!

The thing about the white disc issue is that it seems to be in limited situations - but when you have a bunch of people attempting to reproduce the effect - in my opinion - you tend to completely over blow the issue (how many of these people would actually experience it under their normal shooting styles/conditions?). Just my two cents.

RE: White Disc problem:

Firmware will be issued to "lessen" the sensor blooming that occurs.

I have yet to see this effect to be honest and, based on the tests that DPReview have done it just looks like you've got to be pointing this thing at a fairly bright light source (that said, I want to see the "whole" scene, not just 100% crops - in the samples it looks like they pointed it squarely at JUST a pair of light sources).

Cheers,
dave
