The cnet review linked from the Dell page doesn't sound all that great:

Quote:
Unfortunately, its RGB presets are marred by dithering when viewing dark gray images and the screen has a slight pink tint.
If you don't mind skimping on connections, ergonomic options or a wider viewing angle, the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 is USD $300 less and excels at games, movies, and office tasks.

Is the colour technology really that much better? Yet the review says there are issues.

depends, this is a lame monitor for gaming, this is not a monitor for you if you just put your images on the web and still shoot jpg+srbg. But...if you do print your images, if you care about your color management and you like the best color gamut available for your images then go for it.

About the rgb presets ...who cares maybe they are useless, as most professionals would use a color calibration device aimed to refine their monitor's specific editing environment.

Again. +1

This monitor works pretty well for watching movies and doing all other computing tasks, but yes it sucks for gaming. If you are someone who needs to get the best colour for PHOTOS then invest in this monitor and a colour calibration device and you will never look back. Other monitors cannot compare with this one due to the price point it is at and for anything comparable you would pay twice as much elsewhere so this way you can get the calibrator and monitor for the price of some of the big name monitors and have the easiest workflow you have ever had. No more need to make stupid amounts of test prints to get things right and no more need to make print versions and screen versions of your images.

The serious hobbyist and the professional:That is who this monitor is aimed at.

I went for the 24inch over the 22inch solely because I wanted just a bit extra real estate to work with my larger landscape and architectural shots where I don't always want to be zoomed in to se details. This monitor shows the details beautifully and colours are a dream. If you want a cheaper one then go for the 22 inch (tyler[Mr.Walczak] has one for sale in the for sale section currently for a great price) but you will not be disappointed that you spent a little more on the larger one. That I know for sure.

Any recommendations on a calibration device? I have a dual monitor setup right now and I'm pretty unhappy with them. The colours look different and I can't get it to match (they are two different monitor brands) or be accurate despite spending a lot of time tweaking.

Edit: why is a Canadian website telling me I don't know how to spell colour? :)
