Phottix Strato triggers

Looks like a great alternative with some hefty creative improvements, or is it?
Frankly, I don't see the point of this trigger set, do you?

why? all it does is lets you use another flash on-camera in ttl mode, other flashes triggered remotely do not work in ttl mode, only manual

only thing that caught my eye was the part about CLS, but it can't transfer that data so as you said, is useless.

yeah, i can't imagine using an on camera flash that much with off camera flash requiring a special trigger.

Ikelite used to make one called the LiteLink that was an optical trigger with TTL capabilities. It was originally built for underwater use but was later ported for Canon and Nikon speedlights.

http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/lite_link.html

I've got a couple of them somewhere in the basement.

sorry, silly question. I always set my flashes manually.

How would TTL know what lighting ratios you want to use? Say i want to have a nice soft shadow on one side with a minimal flash but the other side exposed bang on?

I don't think it does  PW have some kind of light control developed I think. Otherwise you do flash exposure compensation on each flash to control the light, right?

That's what i was thinking. Manually adjusting each flash using the CLS?

the point of a wireless ttl trigger would be wedding or other location based photography with 1 flash fill, the benefit of not having to adjust the flash all the time, I wonder how these new PW mini series do that

I think we are discussing 2 different systems here.

Chopper you are saying using Nikon CLS to control each flash manually via camera or a Nikon commander, while potatoEYE is talking using non-brand specific manual trigger and set power on each individual flash.

From what I read on Pocketwizard, the nikon-pocketwizard system still needs a nikon commandar on top of the FlexTT5 for CLS iTTL to works. I would guess similar requirement for ettl
