Was doing a photoshoot today at Yonge/Dundas Square when my camera dropped 4 ft from the tripod and hit the concrete below. Picked it up put it back on the tripod and it kept working. The 5DMk2 with grip and 16-35L came out relative unscathed, actually the 16-35L looks mint since the grip took the initial impact and then bounced on the ND filter that was attached.

Camera still works fine, should I take it in to Canon? Does Canon even offer a check up service to see if everything is in working condition?

Not surprising that the 5D is working...it is designed to take some falls.

For piece of mind, I would send it in. At the minimum, they give the sensor a cleaning and check over everything.

Scary moment I'm sure.

I dropped my 50D (well I didnt) from about 3 feet to ceramic and it didn't have any affect.

I'd agree.... Send it in for a checkup, and if everything is good, then you have nothing to worry about. I dropped my D700 a couple of months ago, although it was only a foot onto pea gravel, I still need to get my cf door replaced. But the shooting season has been too busy to do anything about it.

Do your own checkup a careful inspection will cost you nothing, From my days of doing helicopter surveys the hardest things to fix are those things that appear to be working. The next is erratic malfunctions.:? Now days repairs mostly consist of replacing the likely suspects until it works.

Use it shake it and visually inspect it and if it appear ok it most likely is.

After the drop I still shot another 200+ frames and everything worked fine. I downloaded the pictures and everything still looked sharp. Think I'll keep shooting until something starts acting up then pay a visit to Canon.

I hardly ever sell my gear, plus there's always craigslist. Mint, never been dropped, just like new!

If you took 200 photos after the fact? Save your money.

Lol, no worries, I accumulate gear rather than part with them. Anybody want a film Rebel circa 1991?

glad to hear the Canon survived the fall. They seem to be tough as nails.
