An interesting read. Unfortunately the number one sin is something I am guilty of!

Guilty of all but #1 to various degrees.

2. Leaving gear unattended: I do this one once in a while hiking on my own. Does leaving gear with the dog count?

3. Forcing: Just yesterday I was guilty of forcing the magnifier in the waist level viewfinder of the 500C/M because it had popped out of position. In hindsight I figured out how I could put it back in position gently. If I do force something it's usually a patience issue and I know better.

4. Gear is Priceless: I used to but not so much now. I'm leaning a bit too far toward...

5. Mistreating: I'm not mistreating per se but a bit too casual with the 7D sometimes. Not putting caps on, leaving the camera on the car seat instead of in a bag... stuff like that. I've also been lax with general maintenance such as keeping dust out of nooks and smudges off of front elements. Reminds me that I should do that soon...

6. Little Things: I go the other way with this one sometimes. Too sloppy and not taking the time to remember the little things.

7 & 8 (No feet and too much feet): I'm not overly guilty of either but I'm sure it happens. Instead I have a variation I guess. It happens most with shots I should have taken while laying on my stomach. Instead I'll try and kneel or bend low because I don't want to get dirty. I'll look at the shot later and think "I should have been on my stomach" and delete.

So, to recap:

Take really good care of your camera, don't drop it or mistreat it; but practice how to get your camera and tripod ready while you're running to catch a sunset because you're late; and if you do happen to mistreat it, don't worry about it.

genius.

OK, I dropped a camera ONCE but I was 9 years old (sins under age 18 don't count), I was bumped, and it was a Kodak Instamatic with only a wrist strap (one step above a disposable camera so it doesn't count)...I got my first SLR at 11 with a proper neck strap and never dropped a camera since then (I used that SLR for 20 years).

Sigh, last night I was trying to open the back of an FE2 to load some film for the first time and it didn't appear to be working as per the instructions said it would (I'm not familiar with this camera but it sure does contribute to my thoughts on Nikon's ergonomics). Anyway, regardless of ergonomics or usability I tried forcing something which I am now paying $25+tax to repair. Not gonna be my month...

I'll one up that. Last night I was at the Roundhouse and getting ready to swap lenses. On the Olympus OM-D you rotate counterclockwise to take a lens off. So on my D700 with my 14-24mm attached, I went to rotate in that direction and that's when I heard a sound. Turns out without much force the spring inside popped and the aperture lever no longer works.

Thankfully it's still under warranty and I have nothing to worry about except I'm out my UWA for about four weeks, in which time I'm heading to Antigua. I guess panoramic stitches here we come.

Yikes. Yup, you have me beat there. I use Canon most of the time but occasionally I have Nikon gear in hand. It sounds as though Olympus is like Canon for lens mounting. Each time I am mounting a Nikon lens I catch myself trying to do it the Canon (right :D) way. Muscle memory. I must learn from your error and not force the Nikon stuff.

It did cost me almost $30 but the FE2 is now working again. Yet to actually take a picture with it. And I just bought a scanner so time to start using it.
