Im sorry if I am posting this in the wrong sub-forum or if this is improper. I dont think it technically falls under mentoring per se...

Since my friend moved to Ottawa to pursue her law degree, I am left without a reliable assistant on photoshoots. Not to say that i am a pro by any stretch but a budding hobbyist that tends to shoot models and trying new things. I am guessing that i am not the only one that could use a reliable assistant to help on shoots (carrying lights, adjusting settings, the model's bag of clothes, holding reflector, etc.).

It's not really mentoring, but maybe it would be great to see if some of us are willing to help each other out? Maybe make a list of people willing to trade assistant tasks for each other? I'm more than happy to volunteer a couple hours here and there to assist on someone else's shoot if i could get a volunteer for one of mine, etc.

Any interest in forming a list or group for this? :D

awesome, it looks like we have a group already!

I am actually working on setting up a shoot for Sunday afternoon. Winter Wonderland theme to shoot a blonde model in a white coat in a snowy field for a dreamy winter look, if anyone thinks they might want to assist with the lights, and equipment.

I plan on using one AB800 with a beauty dish or brolly and maybe 1-2 speedlights to supplement if necessary.

I'd also like to put my name out there to assist as well. I have some modest equipment that I can contribute with - a studio strobe, some flashes, modifiers, reflector, etc. Mostly I'd like to just get out there and see how others do it in a real setting. I can just quietly observe and not take photos too.:)

Great response from everyone!

So, it looks like the list of willing volunteers to assist on shoots are:

1. Me (Chopper)
2. Mr.Walczak
3. PotatoEYE
4. mike
5. MikeES
6. Delsorbo
7. ldam

Big thanks to ea77 for coming out to assist me last Sunday on my winter-themed shoot. It was a lot of help.

Here was one of the most difficult shots to get that day. Thanks to the BLINDING sunshine coupled with the BLINDING snow, in order to properly expose Stephanie in the shot, we had to crank the AB800 to full power at about 18 feet away.

The idea is if ANYONE needs an assistant, they can contact someone on the list, right?

I'm happy to help out someone if i am available on the day they are shooting. I pretty much shoot only people/models but am more than happy ot help someone shoot something else too like, um, architecture or city scape, etc. :D

Just wondering if anyone is available for 60-90 minutes tomorrow afternoon to assist on a simple shoot?

Simple "spring look" shoot probably near the beaches area about 3:30 or 4 o'clock. I'm primarily testing out the AB PLM 84" umbrella and me new light meter (yay!). A little worried about the wind blowing it back and forth. Would really appreciate an assistant to help with light settings and holding the equipment down, just in case. :D

Favour will be returned on your next shoot for sure!
