I have seen a few posts on here of people, like me, that are reading a bunch on strobist and other sources online.

Its an $$ part of photography sometimes as to get a bunch of the "gear" to try different things can be pricey.

Myself, I've got a flash, softbox, diffusers, reflectors, and tripods, but would love to try different things with all the elements together. For some techniques, I would need to get a few more things and I know others feel the same way.

I thought, heck, someone else must have a buncha stuff too...

I've got a few shoots coming up for different things and I work with a few models so I could easily arrange a mutual collaboration of gear and photographers.

Is anyone interested? I hope :)

We just had a meetup at the Toronto Strobist Group collaborating and sharing equipment. Check out the group on flickr.

I'm interested, but I have no gear to take the flash off camera (yet).

So far, I've been reading, and wondering if I should go for the Yongnuo CTR-401P, the Cactus V4, or the Cybersyncs.

Currently, I am leaning toward the cactus, simply because I don't want to have to buy CR2 batteries for the CTR401P receiver, and I don't want to spend so much money on the cybersyncs if the V4 does the same job for less money.

But back to the point, yeah, I would love to have the opportunity to play around with some of this stuff, to get a feel for how off-camera flash works, and how the toys fit into one another.

So yes, I'm interested.

Personally I do it on the cheap by buying my stuff at the camera flea markets that are held throughout the year (next one is in September). Yes they are used flashes but I have at least 9 of them and I've found some small ones that could fit in a child's hand (great for placing a flash behind a small object). I've also got a sound activated flash trigger. I do have one radio slave, but I much prefer to trigger things optically since they are cheaper to buy. Another thing I got at the sales are flashes with gels.

I thought about joining the Flickr group but it's too large, and besides I dislike Flickr since the site is so slow.

I think he's talking about the photography fairs.

I've got the CTR401Ps and yeah, the CR2 batteries are a pain. I think you can do the AA battery mod though which i might try.

I am interested. I have only two optical trigger sensor and two manual flash. Works ok but in very primitive manners. Cheap though

well, I think its easy to use a model so I can make arrangements.

If we all have flashes, and enough battery power, I guess the site can be anywhere.

Anyone like HIgh Park? close to it?

What's the fuss about CR2's when compared to any other battery? OK they are a little more expensive than an AA or 9V, but not that much if you buy the lithium version of those batteries.

I own a Metz flash (34CS2 Digital) that's powered by two CR2's, and I've never found them to be a "pain"...I either buy them in bulk, or at dollar stores (they are still name brand, i.e. Panasonic).

Definition of flea market, "a type of bazaar where inexpensive or secondhand goods are sold or bartered."

Definition of fair, "a gathering of people to display or trade produce or other goods, to parade or display animals and often to enjoy associated carnival or funfair entertainment."

Sounds like a flea market to me, especially since people swarm around the vendors like fleas to fruit.

This is great!

So I've got:

mike
danieltpmg
jackctk
J__

so that should be definitely enough for a first go. I was going to suggest an equipment list message so we know what we have, but lets just wing it.

What date works with everyone? evenings? weekend?

Seems like I'll be busy for a while, and can't come out to play :(

Sorry guys.

I'm also interested in this - I have a set of Cactus V4 triggers that I can bring, but not use... they don't play nice with my 5D - there's a well-documented RF banding phenomenon that happens with that camera and that camera only. But someone else can use them (and if they like em, buy em off me).

Next week is reasonably open for me. will someone be creating an event for this?

When I bought my CTR401Ps, I also ordered up 4xCR2 rechargeable and a charger for ~20$, everything is working good so far.

Personally I'm leery about doing High Park, even at dusk, or street photography at night...I've been assaulted once doing street photography and I don't want to go through that again.

It'd be different if it was inside.

If you're in a group, you shouldn't have any problems. High Park is great for location shooting as well as Graffiti Alley or Osgoode Hall for that matter. Have fun guys!

I am very interested, please post a date/time and I will see if I can fit it in between my very messed up work schedule.

I have got 1 set of cactus v2s + 1 set of dealextreme trigger/receiver and a 580ex2

Thanks,

Antonio

Ok, so I'll try to organize this completely being my first event :)

What do we think about a location? I can't think of any indoor places we could use... how about UofT? they are generally secluded.

I just ordered these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0364150926

They are supposed to be 100% at 150 meters and can be used to trigger a camera. Not too shabby. I'll let you guys know after I get them.
