Hi all,

Im going to start "CDFP 383 Photography: Digital Capture I" at Ryerson (evenings) from tomorrow and wanted to know if any of our TPMGers are also enrolled.

Here is the link..
http://ce-online.ryerson.ca/ce_2008-2009/calendar/default.asp?section=program&sub=cert&cert=STIPHO00&mode=program

I think this is the right forum area to post this in :P

Cheers!

I'm not enrolled but I have taken the course...it's really helpful if you're just starting out. The teacher for me was Rob Davidson - he was great at explaining all the technical stuff.

I found Dig Capture 2 more practical for shooting etc, but I still recommend Dig Capture 1. Have fun with it :D

You're the 3rd person to tell me about Rob Davidson. I seriously wish he is the instructor tomorrow. Im planning to do the whole certificate course so I thought ill start at the basics. Thanks for your wishes!

hi there,

I don't believe Rob Davidson does Digital Capture 1. He is always for Digital Capture 2 I think. Don't quote me on that though :)

I had him as my instructor last winter and it was totally AWESOME! Right now, I am participating in his sort of mentorship program to learn more how to move about in a studio.

He's also teaching Commercial Photography 1 and 2 and Advance Lighting.

Hopefully next time you enroll, you get into one of his classes :)

Youre actually right. I emailed Rob Davidson himself and he told me exactly the same thing. Atleast I know for sure ill get him in Digi Cap 2 and from then on Comm Photo 1 + 2.

Overall I think Ryerson is pretty cool considering it the first time I have classes there.

Thanks tho :)

Im going to sign up for Digital Capture II in September. Digital Capture I was horrible (maybe just cos of the instructor) and I hated it!

Ive heard very good things about Digital Capture II. PM me if you need more info + assignments of Digital Capture I.

Cheers!

Digital Capture I was $596 cad.

Digital Capture II is also $596 cad.

All subsequent courses are $296 cad.

I realize Ryerson's multi-year photography course shouldn't be compared with their part-time/continuing education, but I remember an ad on a garbage can (where the photo belonged) for Ryerson's multi-year photography course, which bragged the photo was taken by someone in their third year in Ryerson's photo course, but it was a photo that I wouldn't accept from someone who just finished their first year (if I was teaching)...poor composition, poor colour, just looked like a poor snapshot anyone could have gotten.

Probably a student exploring the 'snapshot esthetic'. A project which almost always makes for great artist statements and poor images.

I've taken my share of poor quality images on purpose using plastic lenses, Lensbabies, pinholes, etc. but they wouldn't be something I would use in an ad as an example of what I teach in a "multi-year photographic program".

When I first saw it I thought it was a cheesy PSA about not doing something stupid; the ad featured man and woman, age between 16-24 (guessing) dressed in their underwear, on the edge of a cliff and going cliff diving...I thought it was a PSA about summertime safety or about safe sex at first.

sounds like a photo of said garbage can would have been a welcome addition to Piglet's trash thread
