Comparing these 2 cameras which one would you take ?
Which camera is better ?

From what I see they are close matched in their specs but the 7D is considerably more expensive.

When comparing cameras remember to compare overall systems and lens options. Just saying. That said, between the two the Canon has more sealing and a sturdier build. Beyond that only tiny hairs can be split.

Its not about just two cameras...
Its about deciding what system you wanna choose by deciding Nikon or Canon makes u choose the brand which you want to live with for a while
These two cameras are similar,

""That said, between the two the Canon has more sealing and a sturdier build"

Even Nikon is not bad but it all depends on from where you are dropping it from.
I own a D7000 and never had an issue with weather sealing is concern ( just my 2 cents )
ok yes the canon feels sturdier :) by a bit ...
cheers

I remember going to Niagara Falls one frigid night with two other photographers. That night the mist of the falls was freezing on contact with everything, including cameras. Seems to me two of the photographers had 7Ds and one had a D7000. One of those three cameras locked up in the conditions and it wasn't a 7D... Do you remember which camera it was Yesh? To be fair, hardly scientific and so on plus no permanent damage was done. That was a fun night.

Both are great cameras. Handle both and check out the buttons and menu systems. I'm sure one will make more sense to you and will just 'feel' right .. go with that one. :)

Hello Chris...
I remember that night very well...
the D7000 didnt lock up..... it was covered in ice, because I didnt see it often during the falling ice ....
It did scared me coz it was brand new at that time :):) it was working even with Ice covered ....
well I brushed of the ice and continued shooting with it ... :)

Goodguy, as you've mentioned they are very close to each other in capability. I think to choose one over the other it would come down to which system I am more invested in, I.e. Do I have Canon or Nikon lenses, etc.

Not just the system, also the controls layout, size, ergonomics are different. Go into the menus and see which make more sense to you. Was an easy choice for me having played with Canons before. Tough choice for someone who never touched either.

The photographer makes a bigger difference than the difference between the 2 cameras. Between the two the manufacturers targeted a slightly different market segment.

Something else to consider when selecting a system is to choose one you can get help with easily. The online community behind both these cameras is massive so it makes no difference there but do you have a friend that shoots Nikon/Canon? They'll be in a better position to help you with tips, tricks and general use stuff and same if you have the same brand and they're familiar. Plus being able to try new stuff, different lenses for example, is a bonus.

Thank you all for your input.
I doubt I will use any of my cameras in any real extreme condition.
I asked my question more to know what is the general thought between these 2 camera and to know if I did the right choice.
I bought my camera I wanted a month ago.
I found the price differnces between the 7D and the D7000 simply unacceptable especially as they are so close matched in their basic performance.

There is about 500$ difference in price and I made my choice, I got the Nikon.
Not biased agains Canon it was a simple matter of math, I wanted to know if the 7D was significantly better and worth the huge price difference but it looks to me like its not.

Thanks everybody
