I was hoping to get your thoughts on the following. I'm trying to decide between the two flashes. I already have a 430ex ii which I wish to use as a slave and also as a backup. My understanding is that the 600ex cannot trigger the 430Ex any differently than does the 580ex anyway (both optically) so I don't see the advantage there.

I also use a 5dmkii and understand the limitations of using the 600 with it as identified here: http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=9866.0

For those of you that have upgraded to the 600, has it been worth the upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

Absolute best upgrade this past year. Coming from PocketWizard gear, it streamlined everything and has been completely reliable. With your current hardware, and only one 600EX you won't see any of the benefits but it'll be future proof. The 600EX also has a much improved display and UI.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you using the 600 with the 5d markii? If you replaced your PW's I suspect you have two 600's?

I had a 1D4 and 5D2 at the time I bought the pair of 600EX and the only thing missing was the ability to use groups (i.e. mix ETTL and manual groups). But everything else worked, including high speed sync even though the literature says it did not. I have a 5D3 now and can now use groups to mix ETTL & manual. I have two 600EX right now, but waiting for the release of the 440EX or whatever it'll be called to add some additional ones to the system.
