Just wonder is anyone going to get this http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_m_ef_m_22mm_stm_kit when it's released in October? But there's only two lenses and if I want to use other lenses I'll have to use an adapter which has to be purchased separately. But on a second thought, maybe I can just work with two lenses :?: :!:

The 18-55 is equivalent to a 29 to 88 mm lens which is a nice range but the 22 looks very compact and might be a good street photography lens. 35mm equivalent and compact.

You're so right. The pancake lens looks very nice and light and I can carry it with me everywhere. And if I have to go with wide angle then I'll just use my old DSLR  :D

I am also looking at this new camera .. nice small and light .. APS-C sensor .. ideal for travelling .. for me it would be great if it has a build-in view finder.

Canon's half hearted attempt at a mirrorless just so they can say they have one too.

As for the APS snsor, size doesn't mean anything anymore since the Sony FourThirds sensor in the Olympus E-M5 surpases APS image quality and sensitivity.

Well maybe for many APS sensors, but not the newest models like the one in the fuji x-pro1 which still easily beats the E-M5 in terms of IQ and high ISO.

And I don't know if it's a half-hearted attempt, there are several micro four third cameras with similar designs. Canon went a direction that they felt best met the needs of their targeted audience, just like Nikon did with the 1 series. We'll see how well it does once it's on the market and people vote with their wallets.

I disagree, I think it's a decent entry especially for the price point. It's very good for what it is.

Oh no, I just went back and read the specs again and it doesn't come with a viewfinder and there's no add on. But I can't shoot with no viewfinder  So does this mean I have to switch :?:

Well many of the Mirrorless options out there don't come with a viewfinder, although several do have an add-on option.

The question you need to ask yourself is were you planning on using your current canon lenses or did you just want to use the smaller M series lenses. If you just wanted to use the smaller M series lenses, then it really does not matter if you go to another body as you'll be buying new lenses anyways. Besides most Mirrorless cameras have some sort of adapters available to use almost any manufacturers lenses (albeit in manual focus mode only).

Lots of options. I will just add that it is very liberating shooting with a Mirrorless camera, very light and portable compared to my DLSR.

The rumours are Canon will be releasing a more advanced mirrorless within the year... I agree though - no hole to look through no interest.

Yeah, I need a viewfinder. Maybe I should wait for the EOS M II.

I don't quite know what kind of lenses do I want to use :? Actually I'm kind of waiting for my old camera to break down on me so I can decide which camera or lenses to go for but it seems to last forever

What is neat about the eos-m system is that when using the adaptor for ef/ef-s lenses you retain full lens functionality on all your current Canon lenses. Obviously this is a strong selling point for folks who already have a bunch of Canon lenses.

It still means something if you wish to use alt lenses

I'm reserving judgment one way or the other until I've seen the proof. I wouldn't be surprised if it had kick-ass video and decent high ISO at a lower price point. As for sensors: bigger is still better other things been equal; sensor design is always being improved each generation being better then the last.

Canon is due for a next generation sensor lets see what they can bring to the table within the next year.

I've been debating the same thing - smaller and more compact so you can carry it everywhere. But if I'm going out to do a shoot or if I'm on vacation, I'm definitely bringing the DSLR with a couple lenses at least. If I'm out and about, I have my phone for quick shots here and there. So I don't know if there's an occassion that specifically calls for a mirrorless, at least not for me. Right now, I think I've decided that I don't need it. But of course, once it's available in October and we can play around with it in the stores, that might just change my rational decision!

If someone is looking for a way to mount EF lenses on a mirrorless body, there are adapters out there for the NEX: http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/07/27 ... rt-Adapter

Ouch .. $400 for an adapter and it still doesn't autofocus the ef/ef-s lenses .. I'll pass.

of course you could always just buy something like this for a lot less money.

I have one for Nikon F mounts (non-G) on its way for my fuji x-pro1

I'm sure Canon will release an adapter to be fully functional for their EF/EF-S lenses. Until they do (or someone else does), I'll keep an eye on the camera but won't buy it. After hiking with FF gear, I was strongly looking at the Olympus E-M5 to lighten my backpack, but the ability to fully use existing gear will have me look at this camera.

Nice. Hmm, don't want to be an early adopter yet. I'll maybe get a G12 in the short term.

The Chinese version is being tested and supports IS as well as AF. It can now AF with most Canon lenses.

If you read Chinese, you could read it here: http://forum.xitek.com/thread-1037390-1-1-1.html

Also, the Contax-G to NEX adapter from the same person is coming that will supports AF better EF lenses. Can't wait for this one, though I don't even have any G lenses.

Decisions, decisions ... upgrade the G9 to the M with adapter for the L's or wait for the new version with the possibility of new sensor.

Played with the camera and the 22mm, as well using the Canon EF adapter and mounted the new 24-70L II on it. Camera was quite responsive, even with the adapter. Overall pretty cool idea but just not for me. The idea of adapting EF lenses on the M doesn't really make sense to me since if I'm going to be carrying around EF lenses, I'll probably have a DSLR with me too. So then, what's the point?

As for the camera and the M lenses, pretty compact but nothing spectacular. I still like my Panasonic set up.

I've tried this everything was alright, but it feels very plastic, for that price I would want something to solid feeling.
