Good morning all. Have not been around here for a while-been busy with medical problems and getting to know the EM-5.
I have a question for those who are familiar with Germany. What do I need and where can I buy ( in Toronto )a battery charger plug converter for use in Germany.
The back of the charger indicates the input is from 100 - 240V 30 to 60Hz so I assume I only need a plug converter?
My wife and I are taking a 12 day tour of Germany in mid Sept. where I expect to give the EM-5 a good workout. I am planning to take 3 lenses -20/1.7, 14-45 and my newly purchased Oly 9-18.

Cheers,
Leo Reinhard

hello,

I bought a pack of plug converters, where I only needed one (the UK one). You're welcome to meet up with me to have the German converter if you like (You need to recognize it). PM me.

Wal-Mart sells a nice all-in-one unit that has a lot of different configurations. You can also get a similar one at The Source.

If you're a CAA member you can buy one from them at a reasonable price too.

Thanks, I will check them out at The Source, Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
Can anyone confirm the input from Germany electrical outlets?

Thanks everyone for the replys. Someone on DPR confirmed for me that a voltage converter is not required and sent me a link where I found out what the plug looks like. I don't think it will cost more than2-3$ .

They're cheap. You can get away with the two-conductor version since you don't need ground for the charger.

Thanks I will try to enjoy both especially since I will not have to drive.
This will be my first trip to Europe and since I am very senior it may be my last. The only downside will be all the time I will have to spend converting and editing all the raw files when I get back :D

no voltage converter required, just plug adapter that can be purchased just about anywhere.

A little late to the party but yea it was the same thing when I was in Israel last year. All my gear worked no problems with just the plug adapter and no voltage converted.

Keep in mind, your batteries will charge faster with most typical N.A. charging units used with 220v service. Be mindful with heat, depending on how "smart" your charger is. Batteries don't like heat.

While there are actually several shapes of adapting plugs that can be used in Germany ... The safest one to use is identified as type CEE 7/7 which will fill the entire socket and offers ground (even though most chargers don't use ground).

Just an update. I had the good fortune to meet someone in Black's who suggested I try a company called Sayal on Victoria Park Ave. in Toronto for the best price. I found the plug adapter there for the grand total of $1.70 including tax. At The Source and Best Buy it cost around $12.00.

Thanks everyone for your help
