Canon Rumours says so.

Nothing overly awesome but not a bad firmware update nonetheless. It's to be capable of a longer burst... not something I had a problem with. Better auto-ISO functionality too, I may actually use it now.

Official announcement. My gut feeling says this big of an upgrade means the 7DII, if it exists, won't be announced until much later this year.

sounds good.

so, anybody installed it yet?

Is it safe?

And, do I need to install the canon in-box software to do a firmware update?

Not out until August unfortunately. Hopefully safe by then. And no, you can put the new firmware on a cf card and install it directly from there using the cameras menu.
