I have a buddy who is a property manager and real estate agent who is looking for a p&s (sub $500) and it needs to be wide angle. I thought that an in camera HDR setting might be a good idea too to counter all those blown window highlights you always see in low-enmd real estate shots. He is not going to post process the images - right out of the camera and up on the web and he is not a camera guy at all.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

There was some wide angle Canon, can't remember the name. Didn't have an HDR though.

Any thoughts on HDR in a P&S? I thought the feature may be helpful especially for someone who does not know a lot about photography.

Some of the new ones have an auto stitch panoramic mode which might work better then a wide angle.

Any suggestions on models?

I have seen someone use the NEX-3 to do a 20 shot pano of a computer rack. I mentioned this to my buddy and he recoiled. I guess he has had bad experience with it but at the same time he is not skilled with a camera.

P&S camera's don't tend to have UWA lens capabilities. NEX-3 is not going to be sub $500 ..... I was thinking of the Nikon J1 as a possibility paired with a 10mm pancake -- but then again -- you are looking at more than your budget.

Sorry I forgot the manufacturer of the P&S that was well reviewed for the in camera pano function.

Sony has the Panorama mode. Having said that, I think P&S only goes as wide as 24mm/25mm equivalent.

If 2nd hand is an option, there are quite a lot of options. m4/3, NEX or even a basic DSLR plus a wide angle converter might push it into the 20mm equivalent range. Yes, there is a lost of image quality, but I think it still beats a P&S
