Any other S100 owners notice that their battery doesn't last very long? My camera was purchased this April. I've tried every power saving technique that I could find in the manual and online and still my battery craps out before I feel it should. I also notice that the battery indicator is not accurate. It it goes from "full" to "flashing red" and skips the "2 bars left" in the middle. If I turn the camera off, and turn it back on, then I get the "2 bar" indicator, and then after about 10 mins it starts to flash red. I called Canon and they said "could be the battery, could be the charger, could be the camera." Could be phases of the moon, and the fact that I'm a Gemini too! So I kinda don't know what to do about this. It's all under warranty still. But the Canon fix it place for Powershots is way out in Whitby. Too far for me to drive. Suggestions? Thanks.

Is the GPS on? That thing takes up a lot of battery life.

Well here's the dirty of it. You have a possible defective camera/battery/charger and you want it fixed. Unfortunately you can't drive out to Whitby so your only options are:

A) Ship it out to Whitby by a registered courier or registered mail with your RMA number visible
B) Live with a defective camera

Both options above suck but one sucks more than the other. :p

I bought it from Amazon in April. I've fully charged the battery and I'm going to reset the counter and see exactly how many shots I get. Then decide from there. It's a known problem with this camera apparently so maybe I'm expecting more than its capable of. This way I'll know for sure. Thanks for your feedback. :-)

Do u have the updated firmware? 1.0.1.0 is the latest one, came out April 2012

But according to Canon Canada website, nothing related to your situation was mentioned in their firmware update!!

http://www.canon.ca/inetCA/serviceDetail?m=load&id=1&sid=10&mid=2200884&type=D&opt=1

Quote:
Firmware Version 1.0.1.0 incorporates the following fixes and improvements:
Fixes a phenomenon where the image flickers when shooting movies of a subject with an ISO speed of ISO 200 to ISO 400.
*This phenomenon only occurs in Standard mode (with Full HD image quality selected) and Super Slow Motion Movie mode (240 fps / 120 fps). This phenomenon does not occur in other movie modes or when shooting still images.

Firmware Version 1.0.1.0 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.0.0. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.0.1.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
Please note that, once the camera is updated to the latest version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.

How to Identify Cameras eligible for the Firmware Update:
Please check the serial number on the bottom of the camera.
This firmware update is for products with the following serial numbers.
-Serial number
Products with "0" in the sixth digit from the left [*****0******]

Among the products with "0" listed in the sixth digit from the left in the serial number, the ones with a black marking inside the battery cover already have the updated firmware, so this update does not apply to those products. These products can be used as is.

Could be a design flaw where the camera is sucking battery even when turned off.
