Hi all,

I recently found myself in possession of a used Bronica medium format camera.
It's been years since I've shot film, and never a medium format.

I was wondering if someone can give me advice on the type of film (brand) to purchase. I quite like b&w and I think I'll swing by a camera shop later today to get the film.

Thanks!

Zeekid

Pick up some Ilford. I like FP4 myself. (I presume you know to get 120 size, and not 35mm).

Yep, I know to get 120 film.

I've just been so out of the film world for so long (20 years) that I really don't know what to look for anymore in terms of good quality film.

Thanks!

Anything you'll be able to get in Toronto would very likely be good quality.

Tri-X

Nice tones.

Google search the different film to compare.

Opps...reply should have been to the original poster.

I'm an ilford HP5 kinda guy. the 400iso is just soo choice.

FP4 is also awesome, Delta 3200 is nice for those night shots

also Kodak Portra and Fuji Velvia for you're colour film.

Another Tri-X vote. It pushes to 1600 quite easily if you need it to, with a perfectly acceptable level of grain.

HP5 and FP4 are also quite nice.

Happy shooting! You'll get hooked on those giant negs...

For a sharp, fine grain, high dynamic range and easily pushed film it's hard to beat Kodak Tmax 400.
Pick your film for the characteristics you want and the use you are going to make of it. For example HP5 likes high contrast scenes but TriX looks better in lower contrast scenes. If you are using a tripod the tonality of many of the slower films look wonderful.
