Hello all,

I wonder if anyone was faced with the need to service camera, or lens that they have purchased used, but still under warranty with the Nikon.
Nikon policy states that warranty is not transferable, but do they enforce it? What if I have a receipt given to me by the original purchaser?

It is a pretty big risk to drop so much cash on stranger's hand, without protection that your new camera, or lens will not malfunction on the next day.
At the same time, price of the used equipment should drop significantly, since a big chunk of it comes from the manufacturer's replacement and service guarantee.

Thanks!

I had to get my 105 vr fixed a year ago. It was front focusing. I bought the lens off an fm forums member, but he was local, and originally purchased the lens from henrys. The original receipt was included with the sale. I had no issues when i brought the lens into nikon mississauga. They asked for my receipt, checked the lens in their system, i filled out a form with my info, and that was it.

Of course this is not Nikon's officially policy, so ymmv.

I'm pretty sure you will get denied warranty claims if the product wasn't originally purchased from an authorized dealer in Canada, or if its grey market.

Thanks! No, this is strictly concerning authorized dealer sale (local in Toronto, even), but sold to the second, third, etc. person, even though with the receipt present.

Helped someone send a Nikon 70-200 VR with stuck aperture blades to Nikon. He bought the lens second hand but had the original receipt. Nikon fixed the lens free of charge.

Would you be willing to help someone else :). My 70-300 VR is no longer a VR lens. It was bought at a Henry's in Ottawa and I have the original receipt... pretty please :P
