Cool article, while sensor performance is just one part of what makes any DSLR a great, it's interesting to see how these results are arrived at:

The part about the quality of cell phone sensors and ISO's is really interesting.

Interesting when film was beating digital in dynamic range they just redefined the test so digital showed much better and called it more natural. I wonder who's paying the bill? :)

"The ISO sensitivity test allows a certain latitude, so for example a Nikon D4 set for ISO 204,800 is actually shooting at 139,250, according to DxO's tests, and a Pentax K-01 set for ISO 3,200 actually is shooting at ISO 2,724. Pentax's ISO setting might give the camera an edge in a comparison to a rival's ISO 3,200 performance, since the Pentax is actually shooting at a lower ISO with lower noise. But at the same time, other camera makers could be playing the same game --"

This is certainly true of the Panasonic FZ40. Everyone says this camera needs lots of light. Its a stop and a half slower than a nikon slr that I compared it to. When does this "game" become false advertising -> defective product -> scam?

The article states that 3 quarters of their business is developing image processing technology used in mobile phone cameras. So they are definitely biased in the Digital vs Film game. But I would presume their tests are pretty accurate and when it comes to testing all digital sensors.
