Hello, I was wondering if anybody here is going to the unveiling of the Canon 1DX on Febuary 15th/2012 in Toronto? Maybe some of us can meet up because I hate going alone and we can share in the hype of this new camera. Vincent Laforet is the speaker at this keynote address.

Also feel free to comment on this new camera coming out and how many of you guys are gonna upgrade?

I'm aiming for sometime in 2017. I still have to get through the 1D3 and the 1D4 first.

I was thinking of waiting too but I am not so sure I can resist when it comes out. I might sell my 1d4 and get this puppy.

You have to register and it is at the Tiff Bell Lightbox. I got an email from Canon and was wondering if anybody here is going.

Also, just saw this link on another forum about a 5d3 sighting and 1dx sighting.

Great now I can check it out with somebody else and I am probably gonna get there by 4 pm to avoid traffic but we can meet there for sure. I am looking forward to it to.

Tons of stuff yesterday over at CanonRumors on the 5D3 or 5DX - no one seems to know exactlly what it is. It could be an interesting couple of weeks!

I love the grip with the joystick and that is a great idea. Looks like Canon is now starting to listen to the photographers. Who knows maybe the grip can be backward compatible with the 5D mark 2. I know only 9 points to move around but I do use the outer points on the 5d mark 2.

Great Carlton, looks like there will be three of us now. I know how you feel, it gets boring alone but great to talk to someone when something new like this comes out.

Yeah, I live in Thornhill so I want to avoid traffic both ways. Who knows though I will play it by ear but the plan is to stay and get my grubby hands on it.

Hey Jamesy, I sent you the link and just found it in the email. I sent you a pm instead of posting it in the thread so that we won't have any party crashes from the dark side lol. Just joking about the dark side.

I'll probably show up too. As much to see the new Video gear and lenses as to see the 1DX. (Which I already have a preorder on :-) )

I so want the 200-400mm and the new body is intriguing. For those who are going to the show, please let us know what the new body is?

The new body is the 1DX. They are just unveiling the 1DX, C300 and some cine lenses. I've been to the 7D launch and the 60D launch. Always run into people there it's great. I probably won't be able to make it there till around 5:30-6:00. Hope to see you guys there.

If you need to justify the cost of a 1DX then it's not for you.

professionals wouldn't even think about the cost of 1Dx for the features they're getting :)

Professionals always think of cost vs benefit. :)

Lol, I give up. ;P

I can only speak for myself, It's marginally better than a mk4 and it's FF. For me that would involve  buying two new bodies to have a consistent crop factor and consistent button layout. Thats $14k not counting moving up a size in telephoto prime glass to keep the same field of view for shooting in media pits. That would be an additional $6k at least (no extenders as I shouldn't have to sacrifice IQ because I bought a new camera model.

For the higher ISO of the 1DX and a few other bells and whistles? Doesn't work for me. Honestly, I have never shot an event over ISO 800 and with the new IS systems I have been shooting much lower ISO's. Thats noise free, perfect sharpness, and spot on colours to boot.  I wouldn't loose any sleep if the guy next to me had a 1DX on the same job.... unless the lights went out LOL.

Business or not. Try justifying that cost vs benefit your wife. Then factor in the cost of a lawyer for your divorce and divide your assets in two ROTFL.

I'm a low light sport shooter too. True, some of my peeers shoot in the range you mention above. I know I'm the wild card. I can't argue that. :P

Don't take my post the wrong way, I can't nor would I devalue a 1Dx as its a truly awesome machine. Anyone who has one would instantly be on my envy/hate list (in a good way). If I wasn't so pleased with the Mk4 I would upgrade.

I really like where Canon is going with their new line and they make me proud to be a Canon owner. The future looks awesome.
