I have seen this pop up a couple of times in recent weeks on Dell for only $199.00, down from $299.00. Is it decent? I have a 23" Acer so I am sure the 2312 would be a bump in quality.

I did notice that there is no HDMI port....

Thoughts?

I have a 22 inch version of that model series. Awesome monitor. Bought mine in the 199 price range. Cannot beat it for the price. Colours really jump out at you.

My 2312HM arrived today at my office - I will haul it home and let you know my thoughts. I picked it up for 215.00 plus tax. I think it is back up to 299.00.

I have been using the 2312HM for a couple of weeks now and it is pretty good.

It is on Promo from RFD for the next 11 hours for 184.99, which is a great price - enter promo code L07TXSDW2NRR0H

Thanks for your post! I was so tempted to order this one last night but I didn't because I don't need the monitor until the next couple months.

Today the UltraSharp U2412M is on sales for $299.

My question is would you rather pay $199 for the 2312HM or $299 for the UltraSharp U2412M?

Dunno - I think the only difference is an extra inch of diagonal size, some woulds argue you should get a 27" or 30" monitor. I find for my needs the 23" is plenty BIG enough.

Thats a good question I have a 24inch dell one myself, the U2410, and its quite nice but doesn't get much use being attached to a 27inch iMac. I find their IPS displays really good, with one exception - they tend to be on the red side and I haven't been able to remove the red cast with calibration - but I have a new calibrator that I need to fine tune and see. But mine is a regular LCD and not LED so that may not be an issue with either of those screens you mentioned. from what I can tell one of the main differences is the extra inch and the higher resolution - so you will actually see more on the screen as well and the screen being bigger. It really comes down to space and what your needs are and how much you want to spend. Just remember once you go big, downsizing is no longer an option! lol Also Dell regularly puts their monitors on sale - so if you are not in a hurry or are unsure what you want - they may yet be on sale again by the time you are ready (but please do not rely on this from me I wouldn't want you to miss a deal either!).

I will add that Dell does have decent customer service - I had a much older model then the U2410 originally and just before the 3 year warranty was up I purchased a new iMac and for whatever reason the apple display port (with a display port to DVI converter) would not work correctly. Dell had me jump through a few hoops (tests), but I had read and they obviously knew there was an issue with these older models working correctly like this so they sent me a brand new model (not even a refreshed one that did work)! Sorry for the tangent - I just wanted to say the moral of the story is that regardless of which monitor you get Dell has (in my limited experience) good customer service and will even give you a new monitor to make things right!

J.

I also have the U2410 and I have compared it side by side with the U2412HM and really did not like the new version. It is way too punchy and does not act like an IPS panel. By punchy I mean very bright and super contrasty even when lower both of those settings manually on the display itself. even calibrated I could not get it any where near my U2410 or my 2010 15" MBP non-glare display. I really do not know why they updated the line so differently from how the others were updated but I for one do not like the newer Dell displays. U2410 FTW! but as jordan said it is about pixel density of the monitor and physical size. you do get much more real estate on the 24 inch vs a 22 or 23 inch monitor and you have to match what you currently have. I use it for my images in photoshop and keep all my tools and my dock on my MBP display as not to clutter the nice big screen.

s.poborsa how do you find the colour of the U2410? Do you similarly find it a bit on the red side (warm)? Do you do anything special to calibrate it? Thanks.

Jordan, I always doubt calibrate it and that seems to get rid of that warm red tone and you can also turn down the reds manually with custom colour in the monitors on board menu system.

I picked up a Dell 2412m a few weeks ago and am very happy with it. I know it has nothing on the 2410, but for the price the quality seems pretty high. The monitor itself (stand, pivot, etc) feels really good. For me, I upgraded from an old viewsonic 17" lcd, so I noticed a huge change in image quality. The benefit to the 2412 over the 2312 includes the extra height of 1200px, instead of 1080px, which gives just a bit more room on portrait-oriented pics, as well as browsing.

Just my thoughts. Let us know what you get!
