Just played with the Panasonic GX1 and it's an amazing camera! Pretty much blows away all other high end compact cameras.

Yeah .. Panasonic seems to be back on track .. after making mistakes with the GF2 and GF3.

I haven't touched or seen the GX1 but from what I have read and seen this little guy will perhaps set a new standard for the M4/3 segment as will the Sony NEX-7 for little cameras packing a APS-C. Kind of reminds me of an Audi S4 with a 4.2L V8 ... LOL ... It will also be interesting to see where Lumix will be taking their premium "X" line without the Leica partnership. Or, perhaps the Leica-Lumix partnership is done? Or, Lumix will be making the new sensor for the Leica M10 since Kodak has sold their sensor business.

I don't think the GF2 and GF3 were "mistakes". They were aimed at people who will be buying the Nikon CX lines. What was wrong about the GF2 and GF3 was only a matter of nomenclature.

I believe you meant Audi RS4 :) Those are actually affordable these days on the used market.

EDIT: My bad, they did have the S4 with the 4.2. I guess I just really want the RS4 instead.

But back on topic - why buy micro four-thirds over Sony NEX? I really don`t think the Sony lenses are that big.

i have not played with the GX1, but if it is anything like the older GH1, i am sure it is a great camera.

panasonic has been getting back in the game with these models, they are not as much taken seriously as compared to the standard full frame SLR cameras, but in the right
hands can surprise many on what they can do.

i know the GH1 video could be improved with a 'hack' - you can up the video bitrate of the GH1 from 20M bit to 32M Bit in AVCHD. If you shot Motion JPEG (MJPEG), you could shoot at 50 Mbit/sec at a full 1080p. This put the little camera in a whole different category with better video footage than you could get from the EOS 5D MkII.
