Grade 8, I was given my dad's Ricoh 500G just before the right of passage of grade 8 students in Ontario -- the Quebec trip .... I shot 3 rolls of film (Kodak print film of some sort)... and came back with mostly architectural images of historic buildings - hmmm not much has changed..

post your first camera story....

I was around 5 years old when I was given my dad's Kodak Brownie Holiday Flash camera. I still have the camera, and I have two rolls of 127 film in the fridge. Someday I am getting that camera out for a TPMG event.:D

I still have some of the very first pictures I took with it. Some very fuzzy pictures of a black squirrel in the snow in High Park. My first wildlife photos. I learned two things about wildlife photography that still apply today. You always need more lens and you need a tripod!

I was about 5 when I started playing with my Dad's Pentax SL but then he gave me a Kodak Instamatic - loved that camera with it's little cube flashes and basic no brainer shooting.

It wasn't till I was older that my dad gifted me with a "real" camera - a Konica Auto S3 - it's no wonder I still love rangefinders.

Cheers,
Dave

I was not trusted the family point and shoot for my grade 8 quebec city trip....LOL...

At 15/16, started with the Minolta SRT-101 (still use it) with 3 sexy primes.

17/18 had the Minolta STsi and first Digital was an Olympus 1.3MP point and shooter.

I remember a Brownie in the box in the basement I used to play with but the first camera I took any serious shots with was my Dad's Pentax SP-1000 with a 50mm lens on it. I did a project in college and shot slide film on it - I still have them kicking around somewhere.

I still have the camera but sadly cannot get the battery door open and the slot to unscrew open the door is a little mashed (thanks to me trying to open it). I also heard there is a voltage issue with the replacement batteries and it would throw off the light meter. Oh well, I digress...

I love(d) that old camera.

My first experience with a camera... was about 6-7 years old, and I found my parents olympus (i think) slr. I remember thinking to myself, I feel like I'm Jimmy Olsen! So I started clicking away... and clicking... and then I rewound it and kept clicking, and clicking...

about 30 mins later, my mom found me... THE HORROR!!! I ruined some family function's photos and I don't think they were ever developed. I remember my rear baring most of that memory after that.

The first one that really stands out to me was a Minolta 35mm point and shoot style camera. Took it to italy on a school trip, shot like 42 rolls of film... ah the memories ;)

gr10 first compact digital p&s canon powershot s400. However, I didn't really get into it until I found my dad's old canon A series slr with a 50mm lens on it. that thing was golden.

I was 6 or 7 when I was given my Mom's old Kodak Pocket Instamatic 130. Still have it in fact, really should take it out for a spin while there's still 110 developing available.

Hanimex A I bought it in high school.

I did always like playing around with my Moms camera as a kid don't remember the make but always loved those little flash bulbs.

My first camera was a Kodak instant camera that I won in a grade school contest. But then Kodak was sued by Polaroid, and Kodak couldn't make them anymore. I received a Kodak Disc camera (like Hamish's above) as compensation.

When I was ~10, I was given a Kodak Instamatic 110 camera. Took only a few rolls with that camera. Never really liked the quality of the pictures I got from it. I only got a decent Canon SLR when I started working. Still have both camera, and they still function!

My first camera was really a cell phone camera. It was a Sony Ericsson K750i. Neat little toy. :)
