Can anyone share some experiences with their Sigma 50mm 1.4 for Canon fullframe (EF mount)?

I'm been looking for a 50/1.4 AF lens for the longest time. I sold my Canon EF 50/1.4 years ago and I find I'm really missing that focal length.

There are a ton of reviews, but I would really like to hear anyone from this forum who can tell me their practical experiences.

Thanks,

Foggy

not canon and not full frame - i use it on nikon dx so it is 75mm FOV

it is razor sharp from f/2 and the bokeh is incredible - the rendering of this lens is very very special

I know you wanted a Sigma 50mm 1.4 experience ....But If i was you ..
I would look at Canon 50mm 1.4... Nothings wrong with Sigma but depends on if you get a sharp copy, Its more consistent with Canon compare to Sigma....
Cheers

Got the Sigma 50 f1.4 when it was released. I didn't have any back focusing issues as some have reported. Nice and sharp, good CA control, bokeh is great and better build than the Canon version which has a reputation of breaking if the front element is bumped.

Carlton, does the Sigma 50 have the issues of AF at different distances? i.e. when I was trying the Sigma 85 i could hit AF accurately near mfd but 8-10 feet out it was a crap shoot.

Yes the Canon 50 for me was very dependable, but I would love to get a 50 with better colours.

From what I've heard from a friend, very good contrast and sharpness, no issues.

I have the 30mm f1.4 which is similar....sort of i think and I love it.

You mean like similar issues the Canon 50mm f1.2L has? Good question. I did the sharpness test a while back and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I should check more thoroughly.
