Has anyone tried these?

They are $50 less than RRS brackets. Feedback on whether they are compatible with RRS quick release clamps would be helpful.

I have one of their regular plates on my D200 and it's well made and works as advertised. I have a RRS L bracket on my D700 and like it a lot although it does add bulk. Looking at the camdapter L plate, as it's generic it appears to not sit close to the body making it bulkier. I'm just going off the images so YMMV.

Looks like a good lower cost alternative. Different from the RRS brand, these can have a neoporene base against the camera bottom. Makes it more squishy and slippery. The RRS plates which are custom made often have a beveled or lip on the bottom edge against the camera to help prevent any forwards or backwards movements. These plates don't always have any bevel to them, only some do, so that means there will be some movement as you pull and push on the camera to try to get it to rest to the exact position that you want such as for macros. Personally I have owned a Kirk Plate and RRS plate and find that they are both about the same. I like that they are custom made to the camera body and battery grip. The RRS plate I have is made very strong and doesn't bend. It's once piece not two. No loose connections. It's also very light.

Thanks for the comments.

The link above says "Works with all Arca Swiss QR clamps, including RRS lever clamps." I had heard that the lever clamps are a lot more finicky in regard to tolerances, whereas screw type clamps are more forgiving. I also have a Wimberly flat clamp for generic camera mounts and it has that squishy rubber that is mentioned above - it works well.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the only plates you should use with a RRS lever clamp is RRS and Wimberly but perhaps that is changing...

I agree that L brackets add bulk but you can also think of it as a bumper 8)

That must have been where I had read it - thanks for posting this link.

My personal experience with screw clamps of late has been that every manufacturer seems to thread them a little differently. The Wimberley screw clamp is very slow, whereas the Acratech one is very fast.
