Have you ever been to camerama and was it worth it to go in your opinion

Depends on who decides to sell their stuff there, what they bring, and what YOU are looking for. It's like asking if it's worth going to a flea market.

If you do a search on this site for THORNHILL you should find several posts about the show where people who went to these shows (including myself) talked about what they've bought there.

The sellers are the usually the same people, selling the same stuff. Camerama, International or at the Woodbridge soccer centre. Anyone into film should definitely go.

that was disappointing.

but then I have most things I need.....and the things I want were kinda priced not the way I liked...

There was a Soligor 135mm f2 for Minolta/MD/MC that was really sweet....for $300 but it came with a camera, 2 lenses I already have and one crappy lens...crappy flash....

I ended up walking out with two rolls of slide film, ektachrome and velvia

I had a decent day...spent $10 in less than 1 minute after I was in the door (flash/umbrella mounts for light stands).

Also picked up one of the lens mugs for $10, and a flash meter for $30. Almost got tempted into spending $1000 on a lens.

I guess the issue with this show was they had an "early bird" entry...people could pay $25 to get in from 8am-10am and clean up the place...one person I know who had a table said all of his stuff went before the show opened.

It's hard enough to justify paying to shop, never mind paying an additional $20 to beat the crowd.

I usually shop around for books, but there were very few this time.

Future shows:
March 27 in Thornhill again (last one due to building renovations)
April 3 PHSC Auction, http://phsc.ca/auction.html
April 10th in Montreal http://therangefinder.com/
May 15th at the Soccer Centre, "The Big One"

If this pay for early bird shopping is going to be the standard for these shows they have lost me as a customer.

I should have emphasized, "ADDITIONAL $20"...that's on top of the $5 fee I paid with the coupon...so it's $25 for the early-bird entry.

Word I'm hearing this was the last show ever at Thornhill CC. Just the Big One left. Anyone who was at the show hear anything similar or contrary ? Wonder if the place is tired of the shows.

Didn't go and would be mildly pissed at the early bird deal, was this known or advertised on their flyer ?

I picked up a 39mm UV filter, a black little pouch/case for my black rapid strap, and a footcandle light meter (more job related than photo related).

I also discovered that phottix now has a clone of the Black Rapid strap.

As for the discussion about an early bird thing, I'm not actually surprised, given the fact the sellers are all doing that kind of swap thing during that time period as well, so a lot of the really good stuff has been sold between the individual sellers before the main crowd gets there.

Suggest you read all the posts in the thread...the answer is above (written by yours truly), and also the possible reason for not having any more shows there past a certain date.

Soon time for the next camera show, so I'm posting this reminder that it's Sunday March 27 at the Thornhill Community Centre, 7755 Bayview Ave, 10 am - 3 pm, Admission $7.

There's dates for other shows/events above.
