Really not interested in being told I should buy a Spyder instead. Why-see question 2. On the other hand if Spyder Print can make pot colour measurements off of any surface then by all means reply with your FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE.

1

The Color Munki software requires activation. Some googling around found that it should really be called validation. I assum this is just entering a serial number or some code included in the box to enter while installing the software and not an activation like photoshop that ties the intallation to a particular computer? Could someone with FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE please elaborate?

2

What is your FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE with the spot color function? My wife may want to use this function for product photography to help get the colour of the product right by dealing with a colour measurement directly from the product.

Just saw that spyder print will do spot colour, so spyder owners fire away.

alright so I own the colour munki. #1 - yea, the validation is just entering the serial number. #2 - I have found the spot colour metering off of hard surfaces to be much better then that off of oft surfaces. I had attempted to do fabrics and it was not the most accurate but off of things like cardboard packaging I have had maybe 1-2 re-dos out of the 100 or so times i have used it. I have read online though of variances between some users. some get very accurate and some are no where near. not sure why or how with their strict quality control standards though.

Not doing soft surfaces is not good for me, it is fabric colour that is most important to us. Right now monitor profiling is more important than printer profiling so I have decided to go with spyder 3 and put off the printer profiling for a bit. If spyder3print's spot measurement for softsurfaces works better than color munki then that is just icing on the cake.
