hi
i just tried 430ex flash on 7d, but when i use av mode, it doesnt adjust shutter speed accordingly (same speed as without external flash)...but in p mode, it does adjust shutter speed accordingly. Is anything i miss? cuz it never happenes in 50D and Xti

You need to adjust your custom settings. Go into the custom settings menu and change the Av flash sync to "fixed/1/200sec".

thanks, problem solved

so auto mode is useless? what condition should i set it back to auto?
so in auto mode, it wouldnt adjust shutter speed accordingly?

Sometimes you may want to drag the shutter or if the ambient light calls for a higher shutter speed than 1/200" so you don't get blown out shots.

Hi Wesyu,

Do you set specific setting so the flash and shutter speed in Av are synchronize together ? I don't think my 50D adjust the shutter speed though?
(I have a 50D and 430 flash too)Thanks!

I didnt change any flash setting in 50D (it should be default in custom setting), and I always get something like 1/60s when I mount 430ex on 50D.
